Damn, I can't help but reiterate how great the episodes was, you can actually feel the desperation from all sides, with Ash and gang have no idea what the fuck Team Flare wants and what the fuck Puni-chan's game is.
I love how Ash has Greninja and Pikachu block TF's path as doge form Puni-chan runs away for them, potentially losing him forever.
Meanwhile, TF girls just keep going despite losing the entirety of their team inside the cave to 10% form, and still manage make it difficult for Ash. The fact that Serena and Clemont stand their gawking while Ash do all the work with Ash-Greninja just adds to the chaos.
And later, I found it funny that the girls just straight up abandon their teammates in the cave after escaping from Ash and gang. I don't know what they said as they saw Ash and gang leave the cave, but i hope they get a grudge on them like with Hunter J.Evil girls with glasses are the best.

Pokémon XY is trendsetter in terms of the Pokémon anime and pretty good in regards to other shonen.
The first addition that makes a hell of a difference is the introduction of CGI backgrounds meaning no more speed lines. This small change makes a large difference as having the background be constant allows for dynamic posing, battling, and scenery. For example ash can incorporate apples on a tree as quick thought attack fodder without it being a WHOA ASH USED APPLES, HOW CREATIVE!! Moment.
The cast of xy is also the best. Up until this point the people who accompanied ash did so arbitrarily because well, he was there. In xy the group actually centers around ash. They're following ash because he is a foil for their flaws, meaning the crew grows and mature someone they can learn from. the point they were at in the beginning by large margins.
What about the main man himself? You've probably heard already because this thread screams it from the hills. Ash Ketchum has not only regained confidence but has evolved into this masculine, inspirational, seasoned trainer who acts as the older brother of the group. And its actually believable. His battle style has become a refined version of his DP style where he's strategical. But now his strats have a touch of recklessness that hits like a truck but can be punished. Its so fitting and hype.
Overall the Pokémon anime has made a staggering jump in quality. If you like shonen you'll like xy. If you like Pokémon you'll like the anime.

Nearly all of those people who hate it, haven't seriously watched it with any level of openness in a long time, they made up their minds about XY and XY&Z without even watching it based on a straw man
Look, it's not amazing TV but it's still fun to watch now. Just have an open mind about it and spend a few hours watching the first dozen XY episodes as a trial. The basic formula is still the same, it's still 22 minute episodes some of which are filler and have self-contained plots, but the writing team has done a much better job of executing the formula now than they did in OS and shitty ass BW. If you still don't like it after spending a while watching some episodes, then that's fair

Granted, OS is still probably the most entertaining version of the anime. It was a lot more gag centralised, and so, it's also probably the series most worth rewatching, if not the only one.
The anime today is a lot more streamlined for a global audience, thus loses a lot on the entertainment factor. XY however, obviously has the biggest production value of any Pokémon anime so far and seems to aim for more badassery than previous seasons, which makes it worth watching for its own right.
I think DP wins as the best Pokémon anime series overall though. It seemed to get almost a perfect balance of character development, story, and entertainment, and tried to build some sort of big coherent story arc all through out the almost 200 episodes, which is a lot to expect from a Pokémon anime to be honest. Of course, it had its downs as well. Like, DP probably had some of the best Pokémon featured in the main cast ever, but it also had some of the worst Pokémon featured in the main cast ever.

True but having Bonnie is extra female is annoying when the attention should go to Serena. Clemont is better replacement for Brock, he is a nerd people can relate to instead of some fag that does female tasks, no one wants that. Still best group chemistry overall.
