Because of the way they're programmed, games like XY and ORAS still have frame rate issues on New 3DS; they're programmed to use the specs the 3DS has, and will ignore any superior specs. Smash Bros. was specially designed to take advantage of the New 3DS, which is why it's an exception, but most developers don't care. It's similar to how you can play Wii games on a Wii U, but it's still not going to be in HD.

Yah, I don't think anything can beat the originals. They may or may not have had the best designs or plot, but they had the PERFECT storm of music, artstyle, iconic and memorable pokemon, with simple controls and story goals. We'd have the gameboy color, I'd sit in my living room couch with a charger hooked up, and played for hours.
There's no other distractions, you'd pick your gameboy, turn it on, and immediately play the game. There's no other apps or second screens, you'd dive right into this magical world and get lost it in. Then you had the explosion of the anime and card game coming out around the same time, where all your friends in grade school would talk about it. There weren't phones to interfere, you all had gameboys. We're truly blessed to be born in such a time (and to have been young enough to get that magical feeling).

I've imported hundreds of things form Japan using eBay. It's easy to not get dupped if you have any intelligence at all. Just buy from sellers with 100% good feedback on 100+ transactions, find a seller you like and trust and become a repeat customer, actually speak to the seller about the item and always pay with PayPal. I've been importing Pokémon games since FR/LG, I've got this down to a fine science. Thanks for the concern though.
