Pic related, wasn't going to bother posting any designs but this is a Bouffalant baby mon I thought up. By level 25 (when it evolves) it would learn Growl, Bite, Cotton Spore, Cotton Guard, and Take Down, plus Crunch at level 30 or 35ish.

I'd say you should study Pokemon designs first and foremost, and only go to real life counterparts when you're treading new areas. Imitating the Sugimori style is not a requirement, just focus on getting the right balance between simplicity and complexity that most Pokemon designs have.

I would like this more if it didn't have the 'ribcage' part and its claws retracted into its cloak to look like a ribcage (which would also mean more claws).
That said, I think this design is alright. I would prefer to have a physically-oriented ghost which isn't slow as shit, since we have plenty of those already (Golurk, Banette, Trevenant, Dusknoir...) but bulky ghosts are always fine.

There's the Hamelia Patens, sometimes called the firebush, which has red bits. Tere's also always hot pepper, various autumn-colored plants, or even desert plants that could be paired with some kind of desert animal.
A theme tying the 3 together also helps. Looking at it now, it seems like they could all be monsters
