Honestly? I think a lot of them are just an afterthought. The sheer number of blue water types that have purple shinies is frankly quite annoying.
Alternatively several might have been 'beta colors' for pokemon. There was that old promo art for Bellossom that had a dark blue-violet 'body' much like the others in its line, but is now its shiny.

Crobat definitely enjoys Feraligatr and Sneasel's colors, Sneasel's scheme with that deep blue / grey also fits Feraligatr and Gengar without turning them into edgemons unlike Silver effect does.
