Calling it now: Ash's battle with Alan is interrupted right at the end as Greninja and Charizard are battling. Team Flare arc starts, Ash beats Alan then, Ash-Greninja is able to topple Zygarde Complete form (or whatever crisis Greninja has to take part in), and Ash is crowned as the League Champion because Alan is disqualified for battling solely for Team Flare. With Malva arrested alongside the rest of Flare, and the Stadium itself destroyed, the Champion League is arranged to take place in Alola as a joint League competition (Diantha, Kalos' Elite Four minus Malva, Alola's equivalents, Ash, and the League Champion of Alola).
Ash, after feeling a little bummed out about technically not actually winning in the League, even if it was deserved, and leaving his friends (maybe Serena comes with him) and Pokemon behind in Kalos and Kanto, meets up with whoever new characters he's designated to travel with in Alola, and decides to take on 8 Gym Leaders like always, because it would be fun and good training. You can also introduce a second Trainer as part of the main group who collects Badges because Ash will actually never compete with them, unless the idea is that they will win the Alola League and battle Ash during the Champion League, in which case, that would be impressive.
I expect Ash will bring Greninja to Alola. What'll happen is Ash will eventually battle Tapu Koko, a battle which will probably be interrupted by Team Rocket or someone else, impress Hala and most importantly Kukui. After seeing the ways Greninja can augment its moves to crazy levels, Kukui wants to study Greninja, and Ash leaves Greninja with Kukui, freeing up Ash to call upon Greninja whenever he wants (for battles against Megas and Synchros) as a "phantom sixth mon," like Goodra now. In exchange, Professor Kukui will give Ash one of the Starters/Iwanko, who Ash will raise and get Synchro with, I'm betting.

It shows off more cores than usual, because it needs the extra cores to be the Complete Forme. We're explicitly told 10% has only one core, and and is shown absorbing 4 more cores to get to 100%. Stroke order and number is very important in written Japanese, especially with the Kanji that's no doubt being crammed into kids heads in school. Splitting it up is a bit wacky, though.
It's a pretty appropriate thing to quiz them on. English just doesn't really have a comparable thing when it comes to strokes. Yeah, there's certain common ways they're done, but it's never taught as THE way to write a letter. The most similar thing would be assigning each letter a number then having the word be the sum of that. But, again, the number of a letter in the alphabet isn't really taught, so much as the whole thing in order. The "subtract some of the later katakana from the first" is more on that tier, rather than the stroke numbers themselves.
