Ash is literally tobias this season. Noone will know what his team will be since he'll just stomp everyone with greninja, with the exception of ayaka where he will show hawlucha for his rematch during the diancle movie and pikachu who is literally next to him.
By the time everyone knows ash's team, it will be in the finals since he'll beat shota and ayaka will be in the Bo8 3 on 3

Reposting because I think it makes sense:
To everyone still doubting that the red shuriken is against Alan, I suggest you still quit while you're ahead. Today's episode showed that the field in that battle is absolutely the grass field from today's battle (take note of the shrub on the left and the sloping hill on the right) while Ash Greninja vs Mega Sceptile happens on a rock field that already got changed into from a forest field. They use 3D models for the battlefields so it's not an animation error, the field during Ash vs Shota is not going to change AGAIN towards the end of the last matchup and Ash vs Ayaka is in a townscape battlefield (and unlikely to change since it'll be a 3vs3). Unless you believe that the red shuriken is somehow from one of the other two matches that Ash will have next episode, it can only be against Alan.
One thing I'm worried about is Alan sending out Charizard against Ash first. Imagine Mega Charizard wiping out 4 out of Ash's 6 pokemon, and then Greninja taking it out? Then Ash would still have to take down Alan's other 5 pokemon.
I sure as hell hope Alan doesn't send out Mega Charizard against Ash until its his last pokemon. I'm worried he might send it out first like he does with all his other battles...then it'd be a repeat of Darkrai and how half of Ash's team went down to it.

>I'm going to go against the grain here and say this was a good episode, even if this wasn't what the majority wanted. It's unfortunately one of those episodes where understanding the Japanese is needed to see why this was a good one. The fact is that this League, unlike past ones, is more story-oriented than the past ones. In past Leagues, it was the battles that were important over everything else. This led to them being relatively isolated events from the rest of the series. But now there are multiple sub-plots coming together: Ash's attempt to start his climb to the top, Sawyer's first go at climbing the mountain. and Alain's desire for strength and power with the parallel to Ash Ketchum almost falling on the same path.
