can someone explain to me why a person would waste time getting perfect IVs?
Why can't you settle for example all perfects IVs except for attack on a pokemon you know will be a special attacker?
You can.
No one ever said it has to be any other way.
Personally, my IV autism varies from pokemon to pokemon. Some I'll be fine with just three perfect IVs, others I won't stop until I get all five of them.
Obviously there's no point in maxing a special attack IV for a physical attacker, but that's why you can only max out five stats out of the six (or it's very difficult to do all six; I forget which one).
I typically consider a pokemon "perfect" if he has all stats he'll use maxed out: HP; favored attack; both defenses just in case I need that little extra to survive an attack; and speed (unless they're an Gyro Ball user).

>getting a 0 IV speed ditto
It's harder than a 31 IV really

0IV Ditto has always eluded me, unfortunately.
I just make due with the checker not mentioning the speed stat of my Avalugg at all.
Daily reminder that perfect IVs are 5 maxed and Atk 0 on any Pokemon without physical moves.
Two reasons, competitive interest and autism.
Neither are mutually exclusive.
There isn't a more satisfying feeling in the world than getting a perfect, shiny, properly balled Pokémon.

>get perfect IVs on one of every egg group
>use it to breed for fast stats no matter which 5 I need maxed
>Catch a weedle
>Put my cart into my cart reader, attached to my comp
>Turn the weedle into whatever mon I want with whatever IVs/EVs I want, whatever moves I want, whatever level I want
>Run it through a legality checker
>I now have a perfect whatever
