A few weeks before my 8th birthday, my mom asked if she could borrow my pokemon poster and I didn't think much of it.
Come my birthday and she surprised me with a Beautifly cake. One of my most memorable birthdays.
My birthday was yesterday. The past few years have been shit for Pokemon memories, either because I've been in high school and was "too cool" for Pokemon, or in college and extremely busy with exams and unable to do anything fun.
As a kid though, my birthday was the perfect time of the year to have a pool party: the weather was just warming up, and school had either just let out or was celebrating the end of the year with parties. For two years in a row I had Pokemon-themed ones at a local pool, and sent out awesome invitations decked out with water type stickers. I think the original copy of an invitation from one of those years is still at my parents' house, I saw it relatively recently. One of those parties included a cake made to look like a beach, and in the "water" my parents topped it with old Tomy figures (new and cleaned ones, of course), along with edible sugar sea stars and the like.
Best birthday I ever had.

My 9th birthday is when I first got Pokemon games.
Red version from my parents and for some lucky reason a friend I invited got me Yellow version as well.
It was a magical feeling turning them on and hearing the music.
I played both of them a lot but beat Red version first.
