How do your fics handle the inevitable abandoned pokemon? do they return to the wild? are there animal shelters for them? do the pokemon go on twitter and post passive-aggressive things about their former trainer?

depends on how they are abandoned and how long they were abandoned I guess. I'd imagine a catch and release mon being a lot easier to adapt back to the wild than one that was raised up by a trainer. Returning to a wild state for a latter would probably be quite an experience/journey on its own merit. still thinking about their trainer, humans in general, and why. As for shelters, I doubt they have their uses unless the pokemon was taken from an abusive trainer or something.

I almost always fall for the "main character dies" trick. Whether they actually end up dead or not, it still gets me every fucking time. It's just something I never really expect, even despite if it's heavily foreshadowed or the work literally just says "the main character is going to die". Props to the ones where they die suddenly because they've been in too many dangerous situations and meet the one they end up just not winning.
I don't know if anyone's into this sort of thing here, but I wrote some gay Kukui shit for someone a few days ago. It'd be really cool if someone could read it and give me some tips, because it's been a very, very long time since I attempted to write anything NSFW.

The way I see it, the most important thing about Pokemon in canon is that they're extremely adaptable. In a different way from domesticated animals gone feral (I don't want to think about something so sad in Pokemon), they can easily mold to their environments, which is why you're allowed to release them wherever in-game. I see specially bred Pokemon entirely raised by humans having difficulty acclimating to the wild, but then it doesn't appear that most wild Pokemon are raised by their parents, at least not for long. Pokemon are intelligent and capable of adapting more quickly than other organisms (oh hey, that thing that puts us humans functionally above all other animals), so they probably learn to fend for themselves quite easily. Then again, there is an allure to sticking around rummaging through garbage in human cities, and that isn't really being "wild". I guess it all depends on how the Pokemon choose to adapt.

Well the point of it would have been that the main characters are stuck in such a mind-fuckingly shitty situation after a terrible event that it just degrades pretty much to the point of practical suicide for one character and betrayal for the other. All you have to do humanize it, right? Indiana Jones got into some shitty situations; but then he fights back, and eventually wins. When writing a character drama, the problem should impossible to overcome without coming to terms with a personal issue. That way, the character grows.
Random advice: Don't try to overdescribe everything. Less description, while not perfect, is much better than wordy, elaborate, redundant descriptions that nobody can read.

Yes, as mentioned before in >>26457375 I'm making a complete storyline mainly for my own enjoyment and I'll possibly publish it at some point if I find people interested in it. This version will include characters from various different series, Metroid being the first one.
In addition I currently have plans to make a separate storyline with the same base idea but it'll be /vp/ exclusive since it will only include Pokémon characters, mainly gym leaders since I'm not that into pokephilia myself. One of my favorite fics a few years back was two chapters from completion and had just released a climactic part before it was all suddenly removed and the project was halted. If all bug types lived in the same region, that's still definitely not enough system diversity to sustain an entire ecosystem from inevitable fluctuations.
I've seen the problem before. If you make microscopic pokemon, then it works but you'd need new species to overcome an intrinsic lack of diversity. It's just not worth the effort to assign all the animal kingdom's intricate responsibilities to pokemon.

A cat-like creature that can breathe fire, shoot lasers from its forehead and read minds or maybe implant ideas about lolcats on humans will have a higher baseline power requirement than a plain-old cat, and thus will seek out prey or nourishment at a similarly higher layer in the food chain.
So yeah, they are gonna compete, but not to the all-or-nothig point where you will see a Tauros and a bull headbutting each other for the last patch of grass. By the time things got to that point, it is much more efficient and convenient for the Pokémon to just go elsewhere, in particular if it is sapient.

Every "person becomes a mon" fic is just Mystery Dungeon, and then proceeds to go on with some boring plot, and treats the "Fish" like any other pokemon, making the whole fucking thing pointless. Not to mention how inherently less interesting a transformation like that is if there isn't any humans in the world to compare against.
There's barely any fucking "Mon becomes a person" fics in the first place (I've found, like, 2) and of the very few that I've found, they're the worst thing ever, written by 12 year olds.

I may be biased, but I think PMD fics can be pretty good if the writer remembers that they're a human in a fursuit, not a Pokemon with human memories. I'm working hard to keep that happening with Rin - he keeps wondering what that blue thing behind him is before he realizes it's a tail and it's his, he has trouble climbing stuff he used to maneuver around with ease because his legs bend weirdly now (although he doesn't really think about that except when he's trying to navigate rough terrain or climb), he's never heard of aura and hasn't a clue how to see with it, and he keeps fumbling things because instead of a full human hand, he has three clawed fingers and a thumb. Oh, and while most of his body is tougher, his ears are sensitive to the point of painful and those weird dangly things on his face are tender as shit. In short, he's the same person, he's just trapped in a different body and is working to keep himself under control as much as he's working to survive.

I thought PMD: Power Trip handled that fish out of water aspect really well. The transformed character spends most of the story agonizing over how he should behave in order to fit in and whether or not he should try to influence pokemon society. The plot is rather unique and avoids most of the standard PMD elements to the point that the author needn't have included it in the title. It's the best written take on transformation I've seen to date.

I definitely agree with you on your points about most stories involving transformation being absolutely terrible. Even among the higher quality PMD stories it's usually mostly ignored. The obvious first answer, being how different it is physically to be human. Thumbs! How great are those, right? Not having a fire to keep you going/electricity running through your body/et cetera? Less cool. Walking upright is pretty weird. Probably takes getting used to. Plus, what if they have bad vision? Suddenly you have to either put these fragile lens on your face, or stick something onto your eyeball? Speech would be the biggest physical hurdle. Yikes.
One could also get into why this happened, and how they'll deal with it? It depends on how you do it, but if you woke up somewhere stark naked, cold, and in a foreign body, that'd be a lot to take in. Especially since it probably wouldn't occur to you to wear clothes, or even if it did, how would you know where to get them? Most people aren't thrilled to deal with a naked feral person.

This is just an example, but what if they'd had a bad experience with humans? That's another layer, if one decided to go that route. Hell, even if they had no problems with humans, suddenly no one wants to catch them, nor is anyone planning on eating them. They don't have to jump into attack mode or run for cover at the slightest bump in the night.
Clothes would probably be a very important and confusing lesson. It's like layers of fur, but you take them off, and have to wash them in machines or in a river otherwise people will be mad that you stink? and if you "shed" in front of them that's a big no-no for some reason?
What if they were already caught a long time ago, and are looking for their trainer? Hell if they hadn't changed they'd probably be able to run, fly, follow a scent, or get to the trainer somehow by now. But now they can't even climb a tree properly to get their boundries and directions straight, nor do they have the nose they used to. And without any ability to thoroughly navigate human society, they're looking for a needle in a haystack.
Even once they'd learned the basics and could walk around like a relatively normal, if shaggy, human, I'd imagine there's plenty of prejudices or views they have that conflict with the masses. How people treat their pokemon, how they treat each other, how they treat their own bodies, how utterly convoluted people can be instead of just saying what they want- In a very basic example, it's the perfect person to confront a bully, because they're still viewing it in a pack mentality, not the "don't get involved" thing humans do.
And that's not to even speak on relationships- that'd be a can of worms.

About three weeks of continuous work on average, but it ultimately depends on the length and specific topic I am on. Less motivated subjects will spur me to meet only the minimum which I set myself, while chapters I am extremely invested in will take no time at all to get more done than what I set out to do. Usually I try to write something every week. My main problem is that I have multiple fictions going from different franchises. I also have an original storyline I intend on publishing after I become more proficient at writing through my various fanfiction works. World Building is distinct in that it is about constructing a coherent, consistent world that has it's own internal logic and history, however screwy they may be compared to ours. Often this will have nothing but the most tangential of connections to any actual story that may be told, though the best world building and story marriages manage to be a story that reflects the world.
The strength of it is that, done properly, even if many things never show up in the story themselves, the fact that it all fits together behind the scenes gives what is seen in the story a better feeling of cohesion and consistency. If you have some "truth" about the setting to refer back and to keep in your mind as you right, it should hopefully come across better in the story proper.
Middle Earth from LotR is the preeminent World Building enterprise. Hell, Tolkien came up with the languages first, then came up with peoples and histories to explain how those languages came to be and evolved. Then, as things had largely coalesced, a story was told concerning the smallest of slivers of the world, both in period and space. The world itself was never finished in Tolkien's life time, and probably never will be properly, despite the efforts of his son. There's whole myths and histories and character stories left untold in LotR and the Hobbit, and only a few are even barely hinted at.
Most World Building is, honestly, for the self satisfaction of the author. An enjoyable exercise in imagination and construction of a world you've created in your mind. It also requires less of the whole "write something that's actually good writing in it of itself that people will want to read" thing that tends to slow the creative process down. It's basically writing a fake encyclopedia.

Yesternight was a very productive (and at points lulsworthy) worldbuilding and concept checking session with #vpwritethread, with the only downside that I ended up staying up to almost 3:30 AM.
So at least I have more clear concepts about what to write, it's mostly the how (voice, perspective) that is missing.

Music is definitely magical like that. I too usually write with a song in mind to boost my inspiration and transform wayward thoughts into action.
Just be aware that your readers might not have the same mood of songs playing while they read. It should not matter though if you're using the music to amplify your mood and increase output rather than to set an entire scene contingent on a particular song or album.
On a related note, sometimes I listen to the ambient sounds of storms or city atmospheres when trying to capture the feel of a particular area while I write.

Can't deny those dubs. I usually just search YouTube for ambient sounds. Select long videos (over an hour) from the search function and make sure your adblock definitions are up to date since a lot of these have high view counts and there's nothing as obtrusive as an ad.

What non-pokemon animals do you think exist? Notable stuff like Cows and dogs and insects are definitely out of the question, but what about coral and sponges?
Also, does anyone else think Pokemon have a different life cycle when not bred in captivity? My headcanon for how incense works is that it mimics environmental conditions in the wild. Like, in captivity a Roselia egg/seed might be allowed to develop all the way into a Roselia, but in the wild its in its interest to hatch as soon as possible, so you get Budews instead.
I also want to describe the non-motile form of tentacools as polyps growing on the seafloor.

Most kinds of RL animal lifeforms still make sense in a world of Pokémon.
Cats and dogs make less sense than in our world and would be less spread, but at the same time being so urban the ones that are still would be more protected.
The very fact that there's both humans and realworld-like trees indicate that the pollinator class is much like in our 'verse: bees, bears, small birds, etc. Grass also looks earth-like so the ruminator class (eg.: bovines) also makes sense, and that allows for hamburgers to safely exist.
If very small insects and landworms make sense, then very small fish and plankton also make sense (and they'd enjoy other advantages they don't have in our world). The presence of earth-like plankton in enough quantities would also allow for the presence of some forms of seafloor life such as rays.
Coral in and of itself is the remains of plants and animals, so cogito ergo sum cogito sum ergo sum.
Simply put, as I've said a couple of times before, the Pokémon world is already so Earth-like in terms of plants and features that "no Earth animals *only*" does not make any sense.

Writing has made me the happiest I've ever been in my life before. I absolute would consider writing professionally, but the problem with that is opportunity. Nothing will haunt me because I'm already behind haunted anyway by even older pieces.

No way to defend herself, he just kinda...forces himself on her as retribution, touching all places willy nilly, her in disbelief that some brat is doing such a thing to her. You also got the Vs. Recorder (I think) that can record the session to his device as well, if that helps.

I needed to catch up on things that matter, and remain somewhat occupied. That is relevant because upon pre-posting review, I realized that the remaining portion of E/V can be a lot better, so when I find time, I'm going to make it so if I can.Largely it's because the first four chapters are two years old, the middle between six months and one year, and the ending was a week or two when I started posting, so the whole "let it sit a while and come back to see the problems objectively" effect was spent for the first third and already helped the middle, but the ending needs love. I think Fifty Shades being born of Twilight fan-fiction and raking in dosh blows that concern out of the water in general. I could see it being an issue for the more extreme fetishists trying to go legit, but for most, if your legit work is at least "good," your fan-fiction will be at worst a footnote and a few old/new fan e-mails.
The question is, would it promote? Let's speculate: If I were to have a "legit" story—say, an own-IP fantasy piece to a few hundred thousand words—would connecting "cge0361" to whatever pen name I chose for that piece encourage all (counts on fingers) five or six of my Pokemon fic readers to buy it, confident that it will deliver the goods, even if it's not in a genre those readers are attracted to? If so, would the story benefit from fan-fic fan-base momentum, or would my (assuming) "good" writing stand on its own (despite the saturated market) as the fan-fics did, and create for the pen name a fresh reputation without baggage?Not that I have a pile of unfinished not-Pokemon things lying about that I don't know what to do with or anything. I have an immense story that I fully intend on publishing. It has been in the works for the past ten years and my dream is to publish it professionally once my writing skills have matured through practice. Pen names are the way to go.I'm paranoid enough to use several pen names even within franchises I write for. In other words, each story or series I write employs a different host name, whereas my interweb alias is solar or some corruption thereof. However, it is beneficial to have multiple followings on different accounts because the unrelated nature of pen names means I always get different audiences to experiment on while writing.
