NOTE: The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you should torrent the game rather than purchasing it. The developer, Squad, is incompetent, extremely mismanaged, and is very resistant to all feedback or criticism. Furthermore, despite being poorly made, lacking a proper development team, years of unfixed bugs, and being in need of a serious physics and optimization overhaul, Squad has gone ahead and decided to add just a couple new features and jump straight to version 1.0 without proper balancing and bug fixing, just to boost sales. Understand that we here at /kspg/ don't hate KSP; we've simply grown bitter over the way Squad has dragged such a promising title into the mud, and hope that our input might help to keep this sinking ship afloat a bit longer. This is circumstantial evidence but we know he's been on bitch duty for three to four months, at least, so it's fair to assume he's getting sick of booking plane tickets.

Okay, real talk, I watched a few chunks of yesterday's stream, and while it is entirely unacceptable that it has been seven months since 1.0 and this is what we're getting, I must say that the person putting all the pieces together and giving the fanbase the narrative must be subsisting solely off tequila and marijuana.
This update is actually not too shabby, between the small gameplay tweaks and the parts that finally flesh out planes and even rockets a little, I'm actually excited to try this update outuntil it crashes and I never open it again
What really bothers me more than anything is that if Squid had said "we're making a bug fix update with small part tweaks" it would have been universally accepted. Squid would have been praised and while some would have pointed out it would have made more sense to have 1.0.5. be the beta, most would just be grateful for Squid's acknowledgement that bug fixes actually are a major priority.
But no, because Squad's shit don't stank, they can't just release a bug fix update, they only actually do so when they shit their pants so much they know they have another four or five months on top of the six already spent in development, so they have to shart something out, so here are a bunch of bugfixes for our already perfect game you entitled brats.

It's almost as if putting a non technical PR Stunter into a significant role was a mistake.
It's almost as if he gave the devs license to add what they wanted without bothering to make a single gantt chart and realize there was no contingency plan if, say, U5 were to actually be a lot of work.
So they released 1.0 and after clusterfucking the heat until people just begged them to stop changing game-wide physics values, May came around, so they took two weeks off and planned a skydiving trip. Then they took another two weeks off because lel sales with no work and le "we're tired" meme and then they took some more time off and went skydiving and max cracked his ass because he lied about his weight so he could join the jump so he could be perceived as part of the team because that's what he spends his whole day/week/month/year/decade/life worrying about.
So then they finally realized they should cram some new parts in, so a month and a half later they tweaked some more physics values and added the ugliest parts bar Hugo's MK3 cockpit ever created.
Then they take a vacation because le 1.0 meme apparently and all of a sudden it's August 1st, so Harv checks the "Unity 5" box in the exporter and hits "compile" and after a week or two, they finally get the game to open, so they immediately publish a devnote saying "QA soon!" and then proceed to do fuckall for a few weeks and finally realize that "holy shit this is still an unplayable mess, and our strategy of being le indie scrawny we write krazy kode dev shop means we will now have to do more work" crazy, eh?
So then the shots start getting fired. How did they get there, who is responsible for this new situation? It will be six months before they even started tackling the major issues U5 presented, so what are they gonna do?
1) Triage this shit, actually spend time retrofitting the modders' well produced, on time work to 1.0.4 .
2) Make sure Max never touches the dev schedule again
