Space Launch System Edition

NOTE: The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you should torrent the game rather than purchasing it. The developer, Squad, is incompetent, extremely mismanaged, and is very resistant to all feedback or criticism. Furthermore, despite being poorly made, lacking a proper development team, years of unfixed bugs, and being in need of a serious physics and optimization overhaul, Squad has gone ahead and decided to add just a couple new features and jump straight to version 1.0 without proper balancing and bug fixing, just to boost sales. With their performance to date, it's clear that they do not deserve your shekels. If and when Squad begins developing KSP like the competent adults they like to think they are and stops acting abusively and manipulatively towards their community, we'll remove the above disclaimer. Until then, we as a community have decided that it stays.

Understand that we here at /kspg/ don't hate KSP; we've simply grown bitter over the way Squad has dragged such a promising title into the mud, and hope that our input might help to keep this sinking ship afloat a bit longer. However, we cannot in good conscience recommend buying this game to anyone.

No, they're still both shit. You start your gravity basically straight away after lift off, and the time you take to tilt over is dependant on your rocket (drag, TWR etc.)

BURN SQUADCAST

Reminder Max hasis cancer and is quitting

Shall I post this to the subreddit?

TITLE: A completely unverifiable rumor a little bird told me

BODY: Maxmaps will be quitting very soon. He didn't see the growth he'd been asked to generate and ultimately his post 1.0 plans lacked the oomph necessary to deliver the content and updates in an efficient and timely manner. (I.e. the 1.1 / 1.0.5. debacle)

Personally, I'm very excited to see a return to a development-focused KSP rather than one centered on biz dev plushie deals and rampant system stratification.

The KSP team is great but with exploding buildings and female kerbals being prioritized, we've had a long two years of "tweaks" and "small features" -- it'll be good to get back on track.

The heart of the matter is that Maxmaps didn't really contribute a ton of useful expertise or knowledge to the development of KSP, but we are lucky enough to have gotten his personal avatar in the game in the form of the dude in the Admin building, so in a way, he will always be with us, even if he is quitting in the next few weeks.

Would Badie care to comment on these rumors?

Thanks, this is my design and I barely made it back, and I mean, I literally adjusted my last descent onto kerbin with RCS.

I think I might be burning too much on landing / takeoff on the Mun, since I have literally no problems getting into orbit

And then I just burn upwards as in here. Other than that, just try to capitalize on every single unit of fuel and weight. Heat shield? Tweak it; you don't need 200 kg of ablator to aerobreak on Kerbin, 30 is more than enough. Solar panels? Gay. Take a couple of batteries and toggle them so you only use them when you need them, instead of them just draining their charge for no reason while on the trip to the Mun. Taking off Kerbin? No need to go faster than 200 m/s for the first 10k, you'll end up fighting against the atmosphere a lot.

>LSM-60 was modified with a well through the cargo deck and hull, a derrick to lower the bomb through the well, and a large antenna to receive the detonation signal. On 25 July, a standard Mk. 3A "Fat Man" type atomic bomb, nicknamed Helen of Bikini, placed in a watertight casing, was suspended 90 feet below LSM-60 in the lagoon of Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.[4] At 0835 local time the bomb was detonated, destroying LSM-60 and eight target ships, including USS Saratoga (CV-3).[5] A seaman present claimed that "there was not one identifiable piece of the LSM-60 ever located",[4] however a British naval constructor present reports he saw a 3-inch (7.6 cm) square piece of LSM-60 on the deck of a target ship afterward.[6]

>During the Pascal-B nuclear test, a 900-kilogram (2,000 lb) steel plate cap (a piece of armor plate) was blasted off the top of a test shaft at a speed of more than 66 kilometres per second (41 mi/s). Before the test, experimental designer Dr. Brownlee had estimated that the nuclear explosion, combined with the specific design of the shaft, would accelerate the plate to approximately six times escape velocity.
>The plate was never found, but Dr. Brownlee believes that the plate never left the atmosphere, as it may even have been vaporized by compression heating of the atmosphere due to its high speed. The calculated velocity was sufficiently interesting that the crew trained a high-speed camera on the plate, which unfortunately only appeared in one frame, but this nevertheless gave a very high lower bound for the speed.

>The fireball created by Ivy Mike had a maximum radius of 2.9 to 3.28 km (1.80 to 2.04 mi). This maximum is reached a number of seconds after the detonation and during this time the hot fireball invariably rises due to buoyancy. While still relatively close to the ground, the fireball had yet to reach its maximum dimensions and was thus approximately "three and one quarter" miles (5.2 km) wide.

>The detonation produced a crater 6,240 feet (1.90 km) in diameter and 164 feet (50 m) deep where Elugelab had once been; the blast and water waves from the explosion (some waves up to twenty feet high) stripped the test islands clean of vegetation, as observed by a helicopter survey within 60 minutes after the test, by which time the mushroom cloud had blown away. The island "became dust and ash, pulled upward to form a mushroom cloud that rose about twenty-seven miles into the sky. According to Eric Schlosser, all that remained of Elugelab was a circular crater filled with seawater, more than a mile in diameter and "fifteen stories deep". The blast yielded 10.4 megatons of explosive energy, 650 times the energy that leveled central Hiroshima.

>Aerial footage of Elugelab and adjacent islands well before Mike shot at a time prior to the connecting causeway being created is available, as is footage after the causeway was finished that supported the diagnostic Krause-Ogle box light pipe system, with numerous trees removed in preparation of the shot also plainly evident, along with footage of the aforementioned helicopter survey of the Mike crater soon after the detonation, and finally, high altitude footage of the crater accompanied with details of its depth - "175 feet deep" - equivalent to the height of a "17 storey building" and with an area large enough to accommodate about "14 pentagon buildings".

You won't believe it, but I was the one behind the Space Shuttle design.

Back then in 1980 I was 5 years old. I sent NASA a picture of an ugly ass space fighter I drew after watching Star Wars for the first time.

For some reason unknown to me they thought it was a good idea. The Space Shuttle even has the same colours and shape as my fighter. That's how dense they were.

Ark is fueling my autism quite nicely. It feels like minecraft, and runs like shit, but at least it doesn't crash every 20 minutes like ksp, and the devs actually listen to their fanbase and give out regular updates. Hell, they even have a release date set for the final version. People say ksp was early access done right, fuck no it wasn't. This is early access done right.

Ksp did good by allowing mods, though. It allows the community to work on shit that they want while the devs can work on the core game. Squad did a shit job of this, of course, but the Ark devs are actual professionals and did incorporate one minor mod already.

Forgive me what I say now, but you sound like someone who discovers something the first time and is overwhelmed by it. Just like I was when I played KSP the first time. I thought it was a great game with great devs and finally an early access done right. Then, after some time, I learned the truth about KSP and Squad.

You are doing the same with Ark right now. You already notice that it runs like crap. There is no early access done right.

>There is no early access done right.

Yea, there is no early access done right, I take that back. Early access is shit and is just paying for beta, which in the past used to be something done for free. It doesn't really give the devs any incentive to make a good game because they already got their money.

But when I usually like I game, I tend to play it a lot. I think ksp is a good game, but it is clear that the devs stopped caring about the game a long time ago.

>>121485627
The notion that you can sell your idea, rather than your product, then use the finances from the sale of the idea to build the product is fundamentally illogical. It incentivizes, no, necessitates fraud.

A solution: require devs to advertise what percentage of their profits are being funneled back into development. In KSP’s case, it was actually less than 5% once all the math was done. The other 95% (or more) went into a shadow bank account and Steam Spy was scrubbed.

We effectively have no idea how much money they have actually made. This is a criminal act and, due to the new-ness of the area, SquEAd took advantage of this to separate billies from their money.

I would argue this is the real reason they refocused on children. Children don’t understand development. Children think a jet engine is on par with a game engine upgrade. Children have innocence and faith and want to defend the people they perceive as good.

Early access “done right” doesn’t make any sense. Many cite KSP as an example of “early access done right” but when you look at the financial breakdown and the laughable update schedule against the complete and total lack of a roadmap, it becomes clear this is a cash dragnet with no meaningful product vision.

And by not having a product vision, the KSP creators continue to profit from the scam, incentivizing further delay and disorganization that requires months just to untangle all the knots they make because they are subpar developers unwilling to spend resources to hire competent people who can code correctly.

I don't understand wh people have a lot of hatred towards Squad

They created an AWESOME indie game, it has won several awards, including best indie game 2015 and best gameplay from the Unity Awards

You faggots are the definition of ENTITLED

You don't have the right to complain about this game if you have invested over 200 hours on it

SIMPLE AS THAT
>>
>>121490862
I wasted 10 hours on the game, and quickly found it more and more of a shallow disaster of a game. Squad didn't create an "AWESOME" indie game. Squad created an "AWESOME" marketing plan, and sold the *idea* of a good game. Even if you want to go by the childish notion of "dollar per hour" for a game to be worthwhile, I'd have had to buy KSP when it first came out. I bought it when it was $16, and have yet to get my "money's worth" out of it.

Meanwhile, the dirty spics are funneling millions of dollars off to the Netherlands to avoid taxation, and playing the "we're SOOOOO indie!" card.
