So a bit new to the game, havent even hit level cap yet. But I've been doing research about endgame, mainly engineer.
From what I can tell, the Engineer is supposed to rotate between 3 kits and keep everything on cooldown. This seems a lot more complex than other classes.
Is it simpler than I think it is? Or the difference not that significant if you're lax about kit swapping.

Well, if you were to follow Metabattle, there's this whole ridiculous rotation they've laid out that's "optimal" for the class. In actually, it really boils down to using 1 or 2 powerful skills in each weapon/kit. Like if you're using Bomb Kit, it's mostly going to be for the Incendiary and Concussion bombs- Smoke and Glue bomb are largely used for utility, if at all. And Big Bomb for the CC and Blast Finisher, of course.
I suppose you could call it complex in that to match other classes like Warrior or Revenant, you're forced to activate many more skills. But it's not hard to learn and remember which skills are the high priority in each kit, and which ones you only need to use in certain situations.

You don't need to hit every ability exactly as it comes up, as long as you keep shrapnel grenade, blowtorch and fire bomb on cooldown you will be fine.
It's pretty easy to do most of your potential damage, it just gets a lot more complex if you also want to manage your minor cooldowns properly.
Of course you could play most other classes to their potential for less effort if you wanted to. If you care about raiding you would probably be better off considering another class unless you really enjoy engineer.

I still don't fully understand how they broke it considering this game barely has a physics engine at all. If anything, they either mean that the jump pads no longer function at all or are currently doing some crazy quake rocket jumping tier fun shit that they'll never release because it's not working as intended despite it probably being infinitely more interesting than anything they could make on purpose.

They've shown like 20s of a dev gliding in Orr, so the assumption is that it will be possible soon.

Quite doubt it, a lot of them involve precise jumping and going up, both of which gliding doesn't offer. In fact, HoT maps have few old style JPs and gliding doesn't really help you much there, it does however make you likely to keep the jump button pressed too long, engage the glider and glide over the spot you wanted to land on.
Of course, it will probably be different on JP to JP basis, but for most of them, especially with no updrafts and bouncing mushrooms around (which I doubt will just randomly appear in old maps) and the old maps being a lot more flat, I think it will at most save you from having to redo the whole thing if you fall as well as turning fatal falls into a minor setback. That overshot thing will be infuriating though if they don't allow people to just unbind glide and bind it on a separate button.
Also, about that no updraft thing, it will make gliding in the old maps a lot more meh, even though it's probably quite a lot of work to implement it since the maps were never made to look pretty from the top, many bits left unfinished and buggy since you couldn't get to them before.
And, unlike that one Anon seems to believe, I doubt you can fly to all those places on RS map, since long ago they elevated all the interesting parts high into the clouds, so they are now higher than the RS cube and can't be glided down to.

What I think they meant by that, is that they redid the whole fancy movement code for HoT (gliding, jumping mushrooms, updrafts and probably the zephyrite aspects and their evolved forms), but SAB still uses the old code with a lot of jury rigged solutions caused by it being a side project made by a few people. Therefore it'd make sense to redo all the old SAB content to work using the new code, and that's a lot of work no one will commend them for, since on the user end it will look as if they just reopened SAB again, something that in the past would be just them toggling it on.

I swapped my mHuman to fHuman because I got tired of over 1,1k hours of the same shouts, animations, skins and the general look. Worked out better because of the lack of a gender-specific name.

That's true, but it has Condi to start off with, and it's super cheap. It was implied that you're upgrading to Exo now, so proper trinkets and temporary Prec/Condi/Power works just fine to tide you over. Crit also gives stats through the % proc traits.
