I recommend against resetting for a better town or different villagers because it becomes an obsessive thing. It's best to play the game, learn to work with the layout of your town for placing PWPs and laying down paths, see all the different villagers there are as they come and go, and unlock items in your catalog.

Not if you get what you want and stop. It's all about setting realistic goals for yourself, like the grass/fruit you want, few ponds, and with things in the general location you want them. Don't go crazy with the conditions, and you'll get what you want before long, then you can move on to enjoying the rest of your game and never have to worry about it again. Have an old, old video:

You'll get your villagers in due time, and resetting a town for villagers will only get you a shitty town with the villager in a bad place, then after they move out you'll get depressed and not want to play anymore. Let the villagers come after you've handled your town. Make the best of whoever they give you to start.

Not really worth it till you have at least 6x6 rooms for every room(its 8x8 max)
Then id say its worth it. Yellow is most important(west) affects bell gain, and especially villagers and how they pay you with bells.
Reds really good I think with Redd(lol) on getting real paintings, rare items in shops, and shit.
Green I think affects how many items you can just come across, like tree shaking, mostly villager requests though.
But proper Yellow can be like "Oh can I give you 170 bells for that shirt!" vs like "Oh can I give you 800 bells for that shirt!"
Pretty sure one of them directly affects money trees.

Home Points are based on how good you room is, how shits placed, how thematic it is, how rare it is, etc...
Feng-Shui is a separate mechanic that affects money+item rates.
Red/Green=Rarer items/more items/legit Redd art.
Yellow=More money from various things(not tree shakes)
Green is more about your overall luck, which is an entirely SEPARATE mechanic that applies to everything(depending on the day)

City Folk was great with save editors and such because you could control everything. As nice as it is to run the town and put buildings everywhere, I can probably name a bunch of quality of life changes that NL needs. Like letting us have up to four bridges instead of three.

Being able to enact zoning laws as mayor would be a nice feature for sure. I also would have liked to see some kind of city council, perhaps comprised of the shop keepers, just so I'd feel like less of a dictator. You could have it so you consult them each time you want to alter things like the flag or tune or for bigger PWPs. Even if they were just a bunch of yes men, it would be cool to have, I think.

No one here in their right mind believes we'll ever see an AC on the Wii U. If the NX is even a console, maybe we'll see one.
As for NL, WAY better, no; they came up with something new (giving the human permissions and power), but still managed to keep some of the spontaneous spirit of say, the GCN version... But of course once everyone got a taste of that new power, they wanted more dictator-control, less slice of life in their AC game.
Could it have been a little better, yes totally. Structure spacing could've been programmed to allow buffer zones between two structures to overlap, maintaining a one space gap instead of two. Crankies and Resetti could've not had their personalities tuned down for children. Balloons could've not had just one theme of items in them. And of course it may be the GCN nostalgia goggles kicking in, but it felt for many like the dialogue for each personality type could've been... A little less cookie-cutter. There's plenty of dialogue that doesn't get seen often, but it really does feel like you have to dig for it.
Ultimately, the next true AC game will go one of two ways: They'll either offer near absolute control with something like being Mayor again because everyone wants more power, and it STILL won't be enough... Or they'll say hey, you're not the boss, RNG is, and keep the player's control over the town relatively the same.
If they choose the former, THAT will be their chance to fix things like spacing/buffer zone overlap and telling your citizens where to move. If they choose the latter... That'll still be their chance to fix the minor annoyances like spacing, or erasing your original bridge counting against your PWP total.
PS: 3 bridges is enough. Any more would leave less river fishing space.
