Well, maximize Curse of Frailty and Vulnerability for a start. That spell is your best friend for ranged and kiting.
You can then add Sigil of Consumption and upgrade Destruction.
You could also put 1 point into the raven and then putting points into Mend Flesh and maximizing Storm Spirit. A nice passive elemental resistance and damage.

Elite really isn't that different from normal veteran. You just need to upgrade your equipment to have some more resistances stuff. DPS isn't everything, it's sometimes better to lower your damage for survivability.

Using a Relic now--don't have the mats to make a better one--and using some components. I'm still squishy but it might be due to Veteran too. I didn't play my original character on Veteran so the difficulty increase is very noticeable.
I actually haven't done SoT on this character yet. Also gotta run back to the Derp Hives because I forgot about Den of the Lost my first time there. I think I'm rushing to the end and the new B29 content I haven't seen yet. However, only optional places I haven't ran on this guy is SoT, that C'thonian side dungeon with Salazar, that small side dungeon in the Drowned Passage, and that's it so far.

I always started with veteran from the start, never did normal playthrough. I think it's better if you do so, you learn how to cope with the different heroes and such, and you'll need to take more care of your defenses.

The boss in the Den of the Lost can drop some amazing rings. And no, there was no portal in Tyrant's hold, closest one is pine barrens. It's also a good farming run. Kill the manticore, go to the cave and kill ol' bloodbrair, drop into the spider cave, and finish in tyrant's hold. 4 bosses, a good number of heroes, and a chance to get manticore eyes.
I'll also add something I forgot earlier, that the best way to play epic and ultimate "safe" is using a shield. pretty sure they will nerf shields soon.
with some item, devotion and skills combinations, you can reach 100% block with 100% recovery time. which really makes some big chunks of the game trivial.

I always do long runs, I prefer to get as many bosses and areas as I can, to lower the chances of getting duplicates.
I start on burrowitch and take on the hoarder from the festering lair and then I go down for gutworm, I managed to get an ancient heart from the duo every 4th run. Continue on to east marsh and kill the 3 guys there, off to sunken reliquary and shambler, from there to cronley's and I continue like that covering the world clockwise.

Flat elemental damage deals one third of each of fire, cold and lightning. So if something deals a flat 21 elemental damage, it in reality deals 7 fire damage, 7 cold damage, and 7 lightning damage.
+% elemental damage is a bonus that's applied to all three damage types, regardless of whether the damage comes from flat elemental or one specific type (Just like +% total damage is a bonus that applies to all types of damage)

The heart is a better long term investment. Some of the advanced non relic blueprints also require monster materials, like the helm of justice legendary which requires six fucking hearts.

Either would be viable, depending on what class you pair it up with. I've seen people have crazy damage with chaos focused Warlocks, and personally i've been running a poison based Witch Hunter that has been tearing things up so far.

How well do item skills scale with +%?
I'd KILL for a fire beam attack, but its such a shame you can't use them as main abilities just because you can't level them yourself.
IMO they should be similar to Devotions, in that you can gain levels in that one specific item to increase the damage of the skill

Yes and its also pretty useless on ranged chars and suboptimal when I play with a shield because I cant use the shaman skill.

So I started the game yesterday, playing Phantasmal Blades... I guess the ingame DPS calculator is not to be trusted? I switched from a green mace to a blue one, and according to the DPS comparision that should have given me +44 dps, but on the character sheet I lost like 30 dps. What gives?
Also, what types of weapons should I be using for Phantasmal Blades? Focusing on the physical damage part first, bleeding/chaos/cold ssecond.
Since TQ and GD are using the same engine, would it be possible to load TQ's maps into GD?

I dont think theres anything like conviction aura in the game that just wrecks everythings resists. There is that caster offhand that procs a physical and elemental resist debuff thats pretty powerful, and some devotion skills can proc lower resists for specific damage types

after all the shilling on /v/ I figured the game would be an improvement over TQ but there's hardly any changes. Even the skills feel the same. TQ was made great thanks to mods especially the soulvizier mod, the base game was just alright. Hopefully there will be mods that will improve GD because right now it's just TQ with a different setting.
