My local college campus is right next to one of the worst places on this side of town. Thanks, but no thanks.
Went to UMW and kept a 5 pokespot circle lures for 2+hrs. Met plenty of cool dudes and dudettes and helped all the newbies. Was a lot of fun. Only downside was out of a group of 20+ people there was only 4 yellows, me included. Didn't stop us from taking down all enemy gyms for a while and having a good time bullying the blues a bit before we all went our separate ways.
Very high potential 10/10 game. Fix the bugs/servers, add trading, battling, and eventually more generations and you have a game that will likely revolutionize social media. Chat function isn't really necessary, but something like DS soapstones would be cool.

guys help, is the mobile data drain from this game just insane or is it just me?
I played for a bit today, caught one pokemon and walked for 1km to the bus, and it drained 20MB. I can't deal with this, I have a monthly limit of 300 total.
Can I really just play this at places where I have wireless lan?
Also, is it just the german launch, or are the servers always this obscenely unreliable? I can rarely even log in at home.

So do you actually battle in this game? I don't really see the point in playing if you dont.
My camera won't center to turn with the direction I am walking. I can only get it to center north or be at a weird fucking angle where I'm basically walking into the foreground and can't see what's coming towards me. Should I assume this game is just buggy still or is my gyroscope fucked up?

So, apparently different areas feature a distribution of different pokemon types. I've certainly seen a lot of water pokemon on the seaside, and for some reason, a lot of psychic pokemon in the city.

I found a bunch of electric pokemon in a commercial/residential area with visible power lines, so it could be either of those things.
Ghost pokemon are usually found at night, and fire pokemon are found during warm weather. I live in a high temperature country and most of my gyms are dominated by arcanines.

I can confirm electric pokes are found near industrial areas or large scale electrical buildings. So your neighborhood power box might not have any nearby but if there's something like, say, a building housed city water pump or hydroelectric dam, you'll find plenty.

If you have 20 evolves that's like 10 minutes accounting for server issues. So I would try to either get like 40 evolves and do it in a new area you haven't gotten pokemon in, like the sea/river (incense while evolving). Also, try to time an egg hatch during those 30 minutes.

This game is just lacking in features with tons of problems. The progression system is garbage and completely unfriendly to new players. Battles are boring. No notifications and needs to be always active even for fucking steps to count.

Each pokemon has a certain max CP (the white progress bar).
The maximum gets increased with player level. (that's why you encounter better monsters as you level up)

CP is EVERYTHING
If you see a lower evolution pokemon with a really high white bar, that means he's really close to his CP max so when he evolves he'll be way stronger.
For example:
Beedrill with 100 CP and his white bar is only 1/4 filled
Weedle with 50 CP and his white bar is all the way filled
The first thing you check is who has the bigger white bar, to figure out who'll end up the strongest one. Now you just weigh whether right now you want a really strong Beedrill (probably around 200 CP because it I think it ~doubles each time), or you want to save all those Weedle Candies to pump out a shit ton of XP from evolutions into Kakunas.

Trainer level is everything in this game. The higher your trainer level, the higher CP pokemon you encounter.
Evolving pokemon Gives 500xp. And with a lucky egg they give 1000xp.
