WZFF is nowhere near impossible to beat, that wasn't the point being made. It's a fucking grind with no resemblance to its namesake roots.
Let's compare it to FF in ODST; original FF boss rounds would typically involve a large group of Brute Chieftains with fuel rods and hammers. Whilst you were playing as ODSTs and were comparatively weaker than the Chieftains, the damage tables were not so absurdly unbalanced that you could co-ordinate fire to overwhelm bosses in a reasonable period of time, therefore - and here's the key point - surviving if you had your wits about you throughout. Dying excessively was punished by limited pool of lives.
In comparison, WZFF provides you with a boss round typically consisting of a few excessively powerful Warden Eternals, who stand in place whilst eight players in Scorpions mash the right trigger and spam cannon fire in their general direction. Clumps of bullet sponge mooks randomly phase in wherever the fuck they want, whilst death is only punished by relegating the player from the game for 30 seconds - a significant chunk of the round's actual runtime.
It's pretty astounding that you believe WZFF is a worthy successor to its predecessor; then again, maybe sitting in a tank and spamming fire at an almost inanimate boss constitutes an engaging surival mode experience for you.

Players wanted a Firefight game mode with the same principle of surviving against increasingly difficult odds, with challenging boss rounds to finish each set. There was a huge ongoing 'Firefight in Halo 5' thread on 343i's own forums.
In responded, they release a game mode with 'Firefight' in the fucking name - so why in the fuck would fans then expect something that deviates so far from the formula they already know and asked for?
If you're going to release a Firefight game, it should probably bare some fucking similarity to what it's actually named after, and what fans actually asked for pre- and post-launch.

Marketing their new game mode with the word 'Firefight', after fans have been asking for the return of Firefight as they fucking already know it, 343i released the mode knowing full well it had jack shit in common with the actual concept of Firefight. What fans expected from the damn name was wave-based survival, even if it had REQ shit included or whatever. To answer your question directly, I will say it's not something I'm opposed to.
That being said, having a weekly MCC session works well with my schedule.
But really it's not and shouldn't be about me. My ultimate goal with this is to help /hg/ get to a place where it's comfortable holding various custom sessions from various Halo games.
If you look at other generals, they have instructions and meeting groups set up for various games, old and new.
Ideally, I'd like to see a time eventually show up where we can have people hosting Reach sessions, Halo Custom Edition Sessions, maybe even Halo 2 Vista sessions, all in edition to Halo 5 of course.
It's not about me, it's about us. And while cheesy, I stand by that phrase.

There's a fundamental difference between the rank you're assigned at the start of a season and the rate at which you rank up.
After 10 audition games, you're given a rank based on your calculated CSR. This CSR is compared to others as well as a set CSR 343 defines each rank by (in case you're one of the first people in a season to complete 10 audition games and thus have nobody to be compared to).
Once you're assigned a rank, the rate at which you rank up is relative to your CSR compared to the CSR of the people you beat. For the most part, people with higher ranks do in fact have better CSRs, so 343's ranking system actually works well... if abided by legitimately.
Here's the thing though, the rate at which you rank up is compared to the CSR of the people you beat (or if you lose, how much worse their CSR was than yours). If you beat somebody with a much better CSR than you, then the game says "oh wow, you're much better than this person, even though you have a lower CSR, let's fix that by ranking you up a lot to make things more even in the future"
So, if you intentionally perform horribly for your 10 audition games and get a very low CSR, then start winning, you'll storm through the ranks super quickly all the way to onyx. Once you get into onyx it's a bit tougher to get into Champion this way tjough, because you do actually have to earn a decent CSR to get in the top 200, but still, it's a pretty simple exploit to at least get to onyx.
Just take a look at this fucking MLG level play. Pelt the guy on top. He has no other choice but to go down the stairs. I note a teammate has entered the complex. The dude is already weakened so he'll be hesitant. He will stay and ramp up back onto the stairs. I know this and don't even look for the guy as i enter the complex. I immediately throw towards the stairs, knowing my target will be there. Net the double. Fucking see me.

1st off, all Skulls are unlocked by default in MCC. You don't have to "unlock" the IWHBYD skull.
If you're talking about the achievement, you don't have to complete the waves of enemies enither, you just have to make it to the skull.

The key is to take things slow to make sure to give the game enough time to process the checkpoints
You get the first after killing the first grunt, then two more on the corner of the building by the pelican where johnson gets picked up

Ok, let's say, as you say, that the unranked people don't count. They don't exist. They're not really playing breakout. That's objectively wrong, but calm down, we'll move the goal posts for you because I'm being nice.
Now, that leaves us with 24,100 active breakout players (not counting the unranked which more than double that because remember, they don't exist amirite?)
So 24,100 = dead. Right....
So you're wrong in 2 fronts,
First, it's not the least populated playlist as you claimed, it's not the most hated playlist either, clearly. The numbers YOU provided don't lie.
Secondly, there's over 20k* people actively playing breakout. And no matter how you spin that, no matter what number crunches you run that through, that will NEVER equate a dead playlist that consists of 8 people on the map max.
