Never. Building a habitat section and a power supply works just as well for recovering oxygen, as does a Seamoth or Cyclops. I honestly have no idea what the pipes are even still doing in the game.

Built a hatch leading out of a scanning room while inside it, the hatch led into dirt. I used a terraformer to dig enough dirt to reach the hatch, when I used it I was swimming under the dirt.

Just the post with this image in one of the older threads, talking about a larger sub. A larger sub would be cool IMO but personally I'd just love alternate sub designs. This is way fucking cooler to me than the cyclops.

Someone have that picture of the four other sub designs? I'd lvoe to have them all in and do different things.

One be slow and ungainly but have a lot of interior space

One be compact and armored/depth-resistant for deep-sea exploration and taking on giant beasts but have little interior space

One be fast and lightweight for faster travel and have normal interior space but it's easier to damage and can't dive as deep

One be strictly for multiplayer, twice the size of the Cyclops and with lots of interior space plus stations for everyone to check and run.

Realistically those subs were just candidates for the final product and will never see the light of day again, except maybe as official mods to swap the sub around 1:1.

But I have this idea that it would be great if the blueprints for each type of sub were randomly selected every game or if all are available in every game but their locations are randomized. Maybe the Cyclops is much cheaper, has less expensive upgrades and is more spacious overall than the Draconis, but the Draconis has more upgrade slots, is faster, and can go deeper both by default and with upgrades. Do the same for the rest of the big, medium and small submarine variations.

So when the player starts a new game he has a chance of finding different blueprints first and that influences his initial priorities as well as which resources he goes for early on. Maybe he finds and scans a large sub blueprint first and it turns out to require a lot of deep sea materials, so he decides to be more sedentary and make a secure stationary base. Maybe on another game he finds a cheap medium sub blueprint early on and decides to go straight to being a nomad and skip the Seamoth or its brother smallsubs until he can build up his stockpile of mats and better sub blueprints.

I do like the idea of a hierarchy, but I think it would be better if the varieties of submersibles and submarines had various strengths and weaknesses. Like one would be faster and more agile but weaker and with fewer upgrade slots, one would be heavily-armored and pressure-resistant but was sluggish with the controls, one that's got a lot of upgrade slots but no storage space, one that has no upgrade slots but lots of storage, one with manipulator arms but few upgrade slots or storage room, one built for battle but sucks at exploring, etc.

I don't really have any illusions about the game, they don't seem to have anything genuinely big planned and all of the updates have been pretty small. Like I think realistically we're going to get a little bit of story, an exosuit, and the ability to breed 1 or 2 more fish, with maybe some genetic manipulation stuff if we're lucky and that'll be 1.0

We won't get automated construction systems or drones carrying around resources, trams, elevators, etc.

Airsacks are some of the worst fuel types among the fish, but they're still better than most plants and eggs. Its just that the bioreactor consumes fuel and produces electricity extremely slowly.

You should go hunt for two reginalds in the plains, they are at the top of the chain in energy value for small fish and are the best salted foodstuff for the long term.

By the time they do a co-op version, they'll probably have expanded the map and added more to do in the existing areas.
This game is ideal for expansion content, so I expect they'll add new regions as dlc after the game is out of early access.

There's huge potential for mods too, if they decide to open it up. I can understand them not wanting to complicate things with modding at the current stage of development though.

It's all a matter of preference for me. I think exploring a vast underwater alien world is about the coolest fucking thing i've played in a while despite material progression. I've pumped about 60+ hours into this game which is way more than i can say for most games i've bought for 10 bucks and with more content on the way I'm sure my playtime will double.
