I'd argue that it's far more a follow up to V than mk2. The events of mk.2 are mentioned in the prologue, and Arfoire acts like her mk.2 self instead of the eggplant farmer. Thats all the relevence mk.2 has, aside from the ASIC side-ot with Nitro+. As for V,The true ending directly ties into the plot of VII. Big Nep takes Croire's dimension powers on a joyride for a few years and ends up in Kurome's prison, then drops the console in the alley where Nep finds it, which is how she meets Uzume. Then later after her first plan fails, Kurome steals the last Rei's power from Croire to try and crash the hyperdimension as her last big plan. Without those two, either VII wouldn't have happened, or more likely Kurome would have won.

I kind of liked it. The VMU was neat and if the NX is a console/handheld hybrid like the rumors suggest then it sounds like it'll be a vastly expanded version of that. I ususally like to do bad end on first playthrough, eg conquest, although i also dont like to spoiler myself on first run so i dont like to do guides then... (will look for subsequent playthroughs)
