Do any mod authors have plans to release the XCOM EU Tier 1 armors? I miss the original armor design and the Resistance Warrior looks fucked up and ultimately dumb.

Yeah and? Vanilla XCOM2 wasn't made with more then 3 weapon tiers in mind. These aren't made to mesh perfectly in the vanilla game, why would they?

The point of this is to release LASER WEAPONS. What people want to do with them is up to them. I don't really know what your talking about, its a weapons cosmetic mod, not a balance mod.

JLs reaction was overblown and would completely fuck things over. The change that was eventually settled on(missed shots trigger pods), should have been the first thing on the table.

LWS' Alien Pack should be released within a week or two, so if you're thinking of starting new playthroughs it would make sense to wait for that to come out as well.

By the way, LWS' own game is currently on hiatus while they work on X2 stuff, and remember that they have one more big magnificent mod coming after the Alien Pack. It won't be soon, so you shouldn't wait for it right now, but it should be a lot of fun when it eventually does.

You know, as much as the action cam (and the camera work in general) might mess up on occasions by pointing at a wall or whatever, it really does add a ton of impact and value into the XCOM experience.

And for all its faults the work Firaxis has done to support modding in X2 is also a beautiful thing, because man, I really couldn't imagine running the game without a large chunk of customization mods (or other mods for that matter) anymore.

Things are pretty good these days.

It's a pretty nice thing all in all for sure. LWS is getting to work relatively close to Firaxis itself and being paid for it, which they certainly deserve after Long War and the incredible long tail EU/EW got out of their efforts, and us users get what is indeed pretty much free DLC as a result, and they also provide sources and allow other modders to reuse their stuff with attribution.

Pretty much the only downside is that because they're working officially with 2K/Firaxis, all their development is pretty much under NDA until release which means they can't really collaborate and coordinate with other modders, leading to overlapping work (like how LWS built their own custom mod menu stuff whereas modders otherwise had been doing the same as well). But really, the same issues go for modders working together with Firaxis itself, so it's not actually that much different. And ultimately LWS' work benefits modders anyway because they are in the best position to get Firaxis to make the game itself more and more modding-friendly.

It can be frustrating at times, but I still enjoy it as a net positive. I think it could use a little more in-game direction so that you had a better idea of what your missing, but an out of game resource like the tech tree viewer is a good solution. When you know what you need, hunting it down and targeting certain factions is fun, it feels like a mini in-game objective. It breaks down though when you don't know what's wrong, that's a real issue.

I really like them. 120 HP, 40 armor, 60% resistance to piercing damage, they can fly, have Night Vision, and their secondary attack is very good for stunning (deals a small amount of concussive damage, and lot's of stun damage). On routine missions on smaller ships I just send them out to stun and kill everything. They also can't ever be put in the infirmary for wounds, so as long as they aren't dead, you can take them to every mission.

Excellent scouts and they can hold their own.

That's probably just an interaction with the fact that Beagle can overwatch from concealment, and, enemies freeze/ don't move all the way if the game calculates overwatch is going to kill them.

Since Beagle's squad has ridiculous overwatch capabilities and often wipes entire pods on contact, they don't even all get run.

After march you should only take PFCs on the easiest of missions, and even then mostly just one, not multiple at the same time.

Yeah, basically you take full PFCs on every mission except the council one, that leaves you with a full SPEC team for April. April you do the same to get a nearly full LCPL team.

It's hard to fight the advanced aliens with rookies, and you need a "wide" roster because you sometimes have to do 4-5 missions in the same week. It's always a tradeoff between playing it safe by bringing the A-team or taking on some risk by training people for the future.

Hey Merc Plasma guy, any plans to make your weapons an Tier 4 weapon after plasma Aka +2 Damage? With some of the later Better AI / Ruler Mods, the game can be configured for an extra tier in tech (I ran out of things to research anyway way before I finish the Avatar).

The plan is to make them sort of a sidegrade to the vanilla plasma weapons, but that's down the line when i finish all the weapons.

I plan to keep making more mods after this, and among those mods there would be other weapon mods, and since these are technically plasma weapons, i figured it would make more sense for them to have similar stats to the vanilla ones. I planned to make a weapon type that fit between Magnetic and Plasma but now that the Long Dong team made lasers that's out the window.

Not sure how to differentiate them yet though, i have some ideas but nothing concrete, i remember when i first posted the rifle here someone said "that must weight a ton, i don't want to carry that shit around" or something like that, so one of my ideas was to make them take some mobility away, but deal more damage, but that sounds pretty frustrating. Another idea is less range but more damage, which might be better since then maybe you could say "ok, i want the merc shotgun because i want to be close, but i want the normal plasma sniper because it has more range", or specific weapons could be different instead of it being a single difference among all the weapon types, and so on.

The only thing i'm almost sure of is that the difference in price will be that they cost less alloys but more supplies, since they don't look like they're made out of Ayy materials.

In any case, i first have to finish this mod, and then i'll make a separate one where they have their own stats. I have a couple of additional ideas for that mod too, like a couple of unique weapons for grimmy's loot mod, like a longer range pistol, or a rapid fire rifle, or a cannon that gives a defense bonus(i have no idea if this is doable but i like the idea of slapping a shield on a cannon that gives medium cover bonus). But i know a lot of people don't like "cheat mods" so i'll have to figure out a way to get people to make the weapons without grimmy's mod, maybe an additional research.

I really love your plasma weapons and prefer them over the shape of Firaxis' (theirs look good, just not my style. Too vanu) but I'd definitely think they look too rough and prototype for plasma 2.0. Not that you were planning that (and I am just going to use yours exclusively over the vanilla ones when I play a campaign).

I'm not sure how you did the FX but if I knew anything about modding for Xcom2 I would have done early plasma being the old school Xcom2012 'big fat globs thrown out like a canonball' and late plasma being the Xcom2 beam variety.

Just spitballing some random ideas for what you could do:

-Bypasses armor entirely but does one of the following: 1) Less damage, 2) Less damage vs Robotic enemies 3) Does almost all of its damage in a DOT fashion as it's radioactive or whatever. Not a measily 1 point a turn but something beefy like if plasma rifles normally do 7-9 damage, this gun does 9-11 damage over 3 turns.
-Mercenary plasma, being more prototype and 'unstable' with higher charged plasma shot, does increased (not some piddly ass 5% but upwards of 25%) more building/cover destruction damage.
-If you want to be more "That's xcom baby" - chance of overload/overheating when you make a shot, which immediately results in an empty mag and a need to reload. Could be compensated by much higher damage.
-Make the plasma mercenary line all function like the fire ammo with a chance of setting an enemy on fire.

Personally I didn't really like in Xcom1 mods that did the whole assymetrical weaponry but that's just me, glad to hear you'll do a two version pack.

I'm still learning how to make FX, most of these fx are just recolored versions of the vanilla fx, i tried some different things with the shotgun but it's not even noticeable when you see it ingame unfortunately.

And ironically i have the exact opposite idea for plasma weapons, my idea for a plasma 2.0 weapon was that it would shoot balls of plasma. I have this idea of bringing back the Elite mutons with fancier plasma weapons. That said i have no idea how to make ayys, so i plan to start with something simpler, something like Advent Stormtroopers, highly mobile advent glass cannon type ayy that would be very mobile and hit really hard, but not have a lot of health.

As for the ideas, i didn't even think about making them some kind of DOT weapon, but that sounds pretty fun. Maybe pistols would even be useful then with face off, put a DOT on every ayy on screen.

As for your elite muton idea, it'd depend on if you want the EU mutons or just use the model of the muton in X2 and add cosmetics as much as you want. It's simple enough to get the X2 version working, but the EU ones have an issue where none of their animations will import properly, and if you did get them to import you would have to do something I don't remember to every single animation.

What I do know is you'd have to relabel all the areas of the EU skeletal mesh's rigging, get the animations to actually IMPORT FOR ONCE FIRAXIS, and then make all the animations into an AnimTree one by one. THEN you've most likely got retexturing to do because of how the old textures look bad in the new engine if unedited. Then there's all the sound notifies to do. Then creating the weapon projectiles and the weapon itself. Then the actual coding like the AI and any custom abilities, among other things. Pretty sure I missed things to do.

Assault and Shinobi: Just chopped up simplified versions of the base Ranger.

So I managed to butcher the Viper King. Which unit should be wearing his armour tho? I thought it would tactically best fit my sniper because of the grappling hook and all that. This was the design for LW Rocketeer as well, and an option for many other classes. It's not a generic soldier, you still get a rocket. But every class in XCOM is also a rifleman. So you can either emphasize their special features strongly while making them a lesser member of the fireteam, or keep them a strong rifleman with an innate class trick or two.

Honestly I'll argue that bio-tank assaults do their job a lot better than MECs. You can stack a lot more DR, and thanks to combat stims, you basically have a two turn invulnerability button. Personally I never needed more than two turns of tanking, and even when I did, the health and DR stack was still godlike, and I ended up taking pretty extremely small damage.

Giving up the job of tanking to assaults also allows MECs to be put to their full potential. I think I used MEC-7s. Great defense anyway to survive hits, and enough mob to get you pretty much everywhere you need to get.

Biotank assaults are the good shit

I remember one of my missions where heavy floaters were doing their regular bullshit, while also having a high level leader with them. Couldn't kill them, so I placed my biotank in some indestructible full cover in front, popped stims, protected the rest through hiding/hunker/smoke, and overwatched.

Leader pulled out a grenade and chucked it at my assault. 9 DR, 0 Damage.

Concealment phase is for rapidly moving towards the objective and then setting up in a favorable position to iniate and wipe the first pod you find. Do not try to pass pods in concealment, they will just follow you. When was this? Sounds like from the b14 era, where Goliaths were literally indestructible. When b15 came, they quickly became labeled as the shittiest MECs in the game.

I'm not sure how well that would work in b15. There's a point of DR gained for every 50 will when mind merging, a good psi will usually reach 100 with inspire or serious training, so that's only +2 DR.

Yes, you're essentially being punished for camping. It was a great tactic doing this in EU:

I'd recommend you still overwatch, but only with half your troops or so. The other half are scouting (until you train a scout Ranger). As for the Stun Lancers you should have magnetic rifles when they appear and be able to one-shot them. Also have a ranger with Bladestorm scout the way. He will kill off the Stun-Lancers as soon as they get near him.

I think you can hit 3 DR pretty easily, but that's about the most you can expect. Let me know if these numbers sound off.

Start off with a 35 will soldier, Medic will progression on average is +28, will progression from psi tanks is about +18, inspiration is +30, and combat drugs is +20. Add in Stead fast for another +5.
35+28+18+30+20=136.

Looks like breaking 180 would be really difficult though, Maybe if you started with a 48 will soldier (can you?) and then got everyone max roll for will gain and then took every perk for will gain while all having combat drugs and inspiration. Obviously not very feasible.

Yeah meant specifically just mind merge. So anyway: The 4 base DR, the +3 from Mind Merge, then +1.5 from damage control put's you at 8.5.

So 8-9 DR after the first hit, and the reductions from absorption fields (40% after DR) and 33% from shock abosrbants, and you have core armoring which gives immunity to crits, with repair servos, and you can still heal them with medkits.

Seems like Goliath's can still be super-tanks to me.

Heavy guns are good against gunships and other medium craft (which is good, because guships often are used to hunt for your hidouts). Also if the big ships ever slow down to about 2,250 then a Kraken can engage them. I actually use three Kraken right now and they all have 3 Heavy Weapon slots. How is scanning protocol supposed to work? Right now when I use it it just scans an area around my specialist, but it seems like I should be able to tell my GREMLIN where I want it to scan and it goes off and does it.

For example, right now if i want to scan inside a building, I have to move my specialist next to the building. It seems like I should be able to have my specialist chill out where he is and send the GREMLIN in instead.

Personal favorite. Effective the entire game, and works wonders late-game.

A crit build in the field of fucking everything up. This build literally could not care what you throw at it, it'll take it all. Even better if you have squad support in the name of a rocketeer with a shredder. Launch one of those and you can take shit out like level 9 outsiders IN ONE SHOT. The most glaring weakness of this build however is that it's more focused on single target annihilation. If you get two ayys out of cover and need both dead with the least amount of actions spent as possible, an ITZ/Double Tap sniper shine a lot better.

That didn't stop me from taking them all campaign however, they're fucking hungry monsters who will gladly crit all things on sight. Give them a gauss rifle and you can say goodbye to all mechs ever

SMGs generally give better mobility, which is helpful for flanking shots. It matters more if you made cover more useful in some fashion, like giving it DR like Long Dong.

The lower damage isn't the greatest thing ever but frankly I'd rather have a more mobile soldier do a point less than have a guy forced between yellow moving to full covers and the only blue move covers being half.

Yeah, soldiers are ultimately much more important, but you will need the meld for mecs and even foundry projects. One good thing to invest in that you can pick up from the start are motion scanners. They give you three scans and let you be alot more aggressive from the get go. You can also use an SMG rookie. It noticeably lowers your damage output on a 6-man squad, but the utility is great. Not only will he always get the meld, he's also very easy to put in flanking positions (which forces ayys to move, often to even more flankable positions, makes them skip shots, vastly limits their available cover, and even the SMG can kill from a flank).

I build them from a minimum 4 base health, + tac vest, motion tracker, armor plate, SMG. Results in 7 health (can't die in one shot to sectoids and will usually tank two in cover) and good to amazing mobility depending on inherent stats.

I put 600 hours into EW because Long War had me in an abusive relationship. Despite the same maps, the variety of combat was jaw dropping and had me hooked.

I have about 120 in X2 and it's difficult to get more. The core problem is that it's an alpha strike simulator. Even with mods, you'll be met with a problem that if you leave someone ayy alive, things will be fucked. Unless it's an Archon with pinions. That's probably the exception.

Medics and Assaults

Medics are the best at being pure psi. Highest will progression, loads of perks to boost will, and can self buff with combat drugs. These guys are probably the one's who'll be running around with rift in missions when it comes to end game.

Assaults are just as good, although what they lack in the ability to self buff and having a slightly shitter will progression(which is still high), they too have will boosting perks to put them up high. Not only that, but taking those perks sets them up to be a biotank, a really great build for assaults that lets you survive any situation.

There is something about it that makes me able to remember and think fondly of operations a lot less than Xcom1. I can't quite figure out what it is. It could be the dynamic maps (Which are good) means you don't have a distinct layout to really vividly remember. I think for all the mocking we did Solomon was right about his dislike of TFTD being out of connection to the player with its undersea strange landscapes. I don't feel much of any connection to the advent cityscape operations. It's less horror of the unknown rampaging down main street and more that main street is tangible in a way something fitting for the late 21st or early 22nd century (Not in a mere 25 or so years) isn't. I get that's advent making super shiny honeypots to catch civilians but it still feels like a whole new genre, like I am in mass effect rather than earth 2035.

I know I miss UFO landed clearing operations a lot. The UFO in Xcom2 is abysmal to clear and is a chore more than anything (in part thanks to the super quick timer & razor thin walls meaning you can proc the entire map in one or two turns). It would be a major boost if instead of just supply raids you had UFO raids - landed barges, transport ships, assault ships.

I think a reason for Xcom2's forgetability is that by virtue of the setting it isn't Xcom1 - it's closer to Xcom Apocalypse. Not quite since it lacks the political interactions but it does have that city-dominated cyberpunk feeling. You aren't earth on the defense, you aren't managing the bureaucracy of being that defense force but rather a hard scrabble insurgency, you don't feel the weight of going from zero with ballistics and kevlar to hero with plasma and power armor.

Since we cyberpunk nao I liked the idea of going further with rogue AI. I don't know who Julian is as I haven't gotten to the DLC but the idea of a shodan AI going haywire and trying to defeat the Ayys as well as enslave the humans works for me. Give them armed gremlins as a separate unit (Think the ol' drones from 2012 Xcom), MECs, Sectopods, those floaty squid type ayys from EW, some kind of humanoid android, and maybe an intermediate heavy MEC between a MEC and a Sectopod.

Problems being bluescreen, EMP, and specialists can make mincemeat of them.

I don't see that happening if they continue the "addon, not standalone/sequel" angle of expansions a'la Civ 5 Expansions. It would be neat but they can also just wait for a full on TFTD. Coming from the sea, infecting humans and sea animals and so on.

They're too focused on not only keeping the civilian population in check, but there's also that plague thing mentioned in the books that resources are being diverted to. ADVENT simply doesn't have the means to fight a full scale war against someone that's also advanced at this point, and would likely get overwhelmed.

That's one thing i don't get about Xcom2, where did all the ayys go? At first i thought maybe they just left to do their thing and the Ethereals just stayed behind hidden with minor forces to occupy the planet, but in Shen's Last Gift Julian says that the Ayy ships are still in orbit, so what gives?

Might be leftovers from the invasion fleet. Possibly converted into processing ships or something(have to make floaters into archons somehow).

Those ships never appeared as reinforcements when the network tower went down and shit went bad. Nor did they appear in the concluding cutscenes, where people were starting to retake the planet.

In direct ground combat? I feel Advent would devastate the Micronoids. Early Micronoid life forms are not designed for long term occupation as they can only survive from hours to several days at most. Even the elite Micronoid units may not be able to hold against mid-tier Advent units. But as it stands, Micronoids are the much better infiltrator due to their Brainsucker's ability to bypass psionics and permanently take control of one's brain. And with Advent's rigid structure it would be too costly for them to screen their troops for who's infected or not.

And furthermore, what happens when a Mothership drops an Overspawn down in a populated area...?

The only "rules" i follow is that i leave them as they are when i first get them, unless they have fancy gear, like halo or something like that, then i'll change it to either anarchy stuff or just kevlar stuff.

Then when i get to T3 i change it to cyberpunkish looking stuff for most and halo gear for the big guys like grenadiers and gunners, psi guys get their own fancy stuff, like skin tight shit or the vanilla tron armor, and fancy hats like either the avatar mask, the vanilla powered helmets or the andromedon hat from the alien rulers.
