How do y'all equip your companions? I'm riding around with a few of them to grind up some bandit parties for exp, but I'm not sure if there's an optimized set of equipment for them to do better with.

typically i give them crossbows. 10 strength for a siege crossbow and even a non combat companion will become good enough to score kills and level up quite handily once their crossbow skill goes up.
For combatant companions you can then give them shield and athletics skills and they will become decent in combat as well (i tend to keep them as crossbowmen in the field). I tend to raise all my companions int for higher training skill, so even the combat companions tend to stay somewhat int/combat hybrids.
An alternative is to play as a horse archer with horse archer companions. This really only works with the more combat-oriented companions, so the int-based ones should follow the above. I tend not to do this because you have to manage them to get the most use out of them. They need high strength so giving them high power strike as well with heavy great bardiches is my preference to make them good in melee as well. Focused combat companions with heavy great bardiches at the top of a ladder are one of the most powerful defensive siege units in existence

Also, I found a companion after sieging Norrvagand or whatever it was from Sweden. I had the option to adopt her, as she's still a child or leave her rot. By choosing the former I get to train her for 120 weeks to git gud at whatever skills, stats and proficiences I want her to b gud at, before she turns into an adult and joins my party. Increasing Charisma also improves her look, bit by bit, too. She's already at level 40 when she's adopted.

There's a companion in England that you need 25 renown and a little less than 30,000 gold to hire. I also got a companion from killing some assassins. They came after me after I failed a bandit quest and started finding notes in my bag. They're retardedly strong though and I had to altF4 them since fighting two people with 200 health and 800 weapon proficiency isn't very fun (pls dont judge me)
Also, I can't rest in England right now and they attack me on sight, even though I'm not part of any faction. Is it because I killed one of their traders, or because I started talking with some Scotland lords?

Yes, it's Hassan. Its been a while, but I know that I failed some bandit quests (I was a pirate with negative honor) and started getting the notes. I got around 3-4 of them before I ended up resting at a town, where I was ambushed. I was ambushed consistently when I quit out after dying. After killing them (cheating), I got a dialogue with Hassan where he offered up his services. Alt-F4ing people merely knocks them unconscious, so that may be the reason.
I'd like to make a pastebin or something for warwolf companions, but the task is way too massive for any one person, let alone a scrubby player like me. As far as I know there's the Orphan from Sweden, Hassan, the UK guy, and someone from Portugal?

My changes were very minor/pointless (slightly changing the order in China, then adding cavalry to Japan) and only done because I'm an idiot.
They're also pretty untested; I put in about 15 minutes to test the upgrade chain and it more or less worked. However, it felt like the script hit the "t6/t5+t6/arquebus" cap quicker for some reason, but I didn't really look into or at it.
Might be because of how I changed the Archer line.
