Depending on how far back you want to go, the early days of E-Sports/MLG and the FGC involved the them sharing a space where MLG took the lion's share of the space but the FGC brought in the most people so you had mostly empty halls watching people play Counter-Strike while standing room only crowds spilled into other rooms to watch people play Street Fighter. That's what started the bad blood.
The main reason people are against it now is that everyone who wants to be e-sports are just blatantly money hungry and it doesn't 1-1 lead to more people playing the game, just more people watching it.
I'm against it because at various times where the FGC could become E-sports with various games they've always managed to shoot themselves in the foot with the most hilariously bad corruption scandals known to man (and by bad I mean blatant and for little-to-no money) .

Fighting games are dying period. Tournament attendance means very little to 90% of the players. Online is what matters in the day to day, and there are less people than ever actively playing fighting games.
FGs peaked in 2013. After that there was a huge drop in players online, with there being a resurgence for SF4 when Ultra dropped but that's it.
People are playing MOBAs/Hearthstone/Online FPS/Meme twitch games like Ark and Seven days to die, etc.
Fighting games simply have no chance in this day and age. The amount of competition for online play is fucking insane now.

1st char: Starts with no meter
2nd char: Most likely will have some meter but also needs to keep some for the last character, so hopefully someone good at both using and getting metter
3rd char: Should have the most meter, last character so if you get a bad match-up you're more fucked than getting a bad match-up with your 1st char
