I've been playing Grand and it's not as bad as people make it out to be. You do typically want a lot of unknowns but if you can commit a Cosmos weapon to it, you should be able to get away with a more normal amount of them.
The optimized pool is something like half unknowns, half magna, but you'll get more damage out of running Grande/Elemental and dropping one weapon for Bahamut. Ditching another for cosmos and then running a good main hand for ougi means you only really need 2 unknowns.
