Mercenary is actually the "this class has no assigned animations" set, I tried it but I just found it not really fitting for a Thief to swing their swords the way mercenaries do, if we could port Awakening animations though, I'd use the actual Thief animations in a heartbeat.

Just finished Conquest, the story wasn't as horrible as everybody made it out to be. It suffers so much from the lack of a strong reason to fight or dislike Hoshido though, even if they are the defending side, you absolutely never have any reason to WANT to win the war against them.
The Valla stuff was fucking retarded and a dumb way to make sure I won't buy Revelation thanks to the disgusting shilling in the game.
I just don't get why they couldn't use the motivations they talked about in Birthright to justify the war for the common nohrian folks, or even as a facade for Garon. After all Anankos wants to destroy both Nohr and Hoshido, but why be so obvious? I feel like I got much more backstory about Nohr in Birthright than I did in Conquest. I liked that it was a struggle of you and your siblings against a madman and his mooks, trying to survive and not make him realise that you wanted to dethrone him, but it was all so ridiculous.
The plan to reveal Muk Garon on the throne was stupid, why not make it happen anyway without it being the focus of the war? Did I really kill Ryoma because I needed to make Garon sit on the fucking throne to kill him? Why didn't Azura wait to show Leo the crystal ball until all siblings were there?
I have no idea how IS didn't think of this stuff, or didn't give a good motivation to fight and dislike Hoshido. It feels like it would be such an obvious thing to do. What a waste of potential.

The basic groundwork was lacking, because you didn't know anything about Flora unless you played Conquest and even then she's a late game character with very limited support options.
If you play Birthright first she has like one line of dialoge at the very start of the game and only comes back for a forced drama death nobody could possibly care about. She's just as bad as Lilith in that regard. It's the same problem with Japanese Emmeryn, you just don't spend enough time with her for her death to have any impact.
