Is it just me or are Knuckles' abilities in S3K actually fucking dogshit compared to Sonic's and Tails'? Gliding and climbing gets you into like 2 unrewarding places that Tails' flight couldn't reach, and he pays out the dick for that ability in low speed AND significantly lower jump height. And for someone with a name like Knuckles you'd think he'd have some kind of useful offensive ability, but he doesn't - Sonic kills enemies and bosses twice as easily with his exclusive elemental shield moves, as well as the instashield that he can use to freely attack enemies/bosses with barriers.
Sorry if this is obvious but I haven't played these games since my childhood and I had always considered their abilities relatively balanced before.

Rush Adventure was actually better than Rush in most ways, it just failed in two (or three depending on who you're talking to) ways:
1) Hub worlds and ocean traveling overworld. Think the ocean from Wind Waker, but tacked onto a speed-based platformer instead of an adventure game.
2) Having to grind side-levels repeatedly in order to upgrade your ships so you can access the next stages. Think the medal collecting, except more tedious.
3) Soundtrack not done by Naganuma. Personally I enjoyed Ohtani's soundtrack for Rush Adventure, but a lot of people preferred Rush's.
So once you get into the actual gameplay it's a lot better. Better stage design, bosses and a bunch of side levels. It's just getting to that gameplay that's more tedious.
