I wouldn't. I'd rather leave the main character as a nameless self insert with as few aspects of them defined and instead make a side story of less important characters that added to the questline of these:

Greirat

Because they all have plenty of "downtime" where things happen without the PC nearby as well as before meeting them. Any interactions with the PC could be minimal and have them be dressed with the poster appearence.

Hollow is the only infusion this increases their damage, yes.
And they're pretty much even quality weapons otherwise.

I've used them on a level 80 pure luck invader just fine. Jump into L1 with rouge instantkills most phantoms at this level

What's a good build that doesn't require me to be max soul level/end game for Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin now that all the updates and patches and shit are done? Preferably something that's not just 'max strength and jam r1'

I only played this game through once and it was back before ANY balance patches, so I went full dex/faith which obviously won't be worth shit anymore since faith is now garbage.

Regen build again but for low level shenanigans like darkmoon summons, invasions and general low level pvp.
I did test it and regeneration miracles does in fact stack with chime weapon art.
This one has 17 hp/s, if you get bountiful sunlight you get 22 hp/s.
I considered swapping untrue with pontiff left eye as each proc is 30 hp, but it's hard to get it to proc in pvp. If you spam for the proc I'll probably just get parried by any competent player.

this is what they should have done for that dark souls comic. they kinda did that by making aldritch a character, but they dropped the ball big time by creating a new protagonist as well as a new order of knights and a new country that we have never seen or heard of in the game.

I much rather would have liked to see the story of alva written or a tale about drang knights as their kingdom fell or maybe the battle between the astora knights and the evil eye.

I like the pouches on the conjurer's chest, more of a scavenger-type look than assassin's or black hand's which are more streamlined. Makes the character look more like a petty corpse-looting thief rather than a silky assassin type.

Can't swap from anri's straight sword as it's the only weapon that has a natural blessed regen on it that can be buffed with blessed weapon.
Straight swords are fast anyway so it's fine.
Also in the long run the proc isn't amazing considering that the regen alone heals 17 hp a second. 2 seconds passed is more than a ring proc.

So long as you aren't complete shit at writing dialogue, there are tons of characters in each game who have the perspective to supply needed plot details. There are plenty of stories that have people with minimalistic dialogue, that still get their story across.

It's strange how they made it so one of the earliest covenants are so weird to find and get into.
Most people don't even find that guy with the cage without reading some guide, and if they find him they'll most likely attack the cage guy anyway.
Then the only way to find it is to complete a quest like that completes when there's like 10% of the game left, plus if you join another earlier covenant the quest fails.

how do i make a good offensive miracle pve build? i get burnt out trying to pump faith high enough to make lightning spear do decent damage early game but i can only get like 3-4 casts off if i use the talisman WA, they do shitty damage and i don't have any hp to tank point blank trades.

I think Dark Souls 2's greatest issue is how it opens up.

It opens up as if it's DaS. But it's not. It gives you the option of class archetypes like you're an adventurer or a crusading hero. You're not. You're some random schmuck who was cursed and tricked into going to the gates. Game could've easily adapted itself for that.

Also, these games should have character recustomization beyond the initial selection. Because I hate character customizing at the start of games. I'd rather roll default and then maybe tweak it later. Staring at a character model beats my immersion with a post, and the default European character option is pale as a fucking ghost with no easy metric to see how you'll actually look in the game's lighting engine.

Well, the other thing is I'd say you're pretty overleveled. Morne's Ring doesn't really grant that big of a boost either, so you might want to consider ditching some Attunement for one of the extra spell slot rings.

fuck my life, this is the best NK fight i've ever had and it ended like this. RNG was so good - the chicken died in seconds and NK himself kept jumping around to a minimun and chain stagger worked perfectly so he died in about a minute and a half

there's a thing about many DaS3 bosses: sometimes you can safely attack them in their idle state. sometimes they just walk towards you and do nothing for several seconds - you can hit them and recover before they attack. it's especially noticeable with NK, SoC and Pontiff, it just can be difficult to tell apart long and short idle state sometimes. this guy does it at around 0:26

You can try pure magic. 50 int 30 fai 60 att, the rest go into vig and end until you 150. Also str for holding sanctum shield and foot soldier sword. It's fun, though requires proficiency.
You can also try elemental zwei with flame weapon buff, vessel shield and minimum requirements to 2hand it. This way you can get enough vit for 152 poise and hyperarmor the shit out of everything. Though it looks like "max str and mash r1" you have to really work on timing. Well, in PvP, anyway.

Remember, a lot of us have a skewed perspective because, minor differences aside, all four souls games play very similarly and we know how to play the game and fight bosses. Most of us went into Dark Souls 3 with three games worth of experience (4 if you count Bloodborne).

Got back to Dark Souls 1, most of the bosses won't be that hard for you either.

I'd say Dark Souls 2's DLC bosses were the hardest in the series. I think Demon's Souls might have been the hardest overall game.

How is BB rigid linearity? The only bosses you're mandated to defeat in order are Gascoigne, Amelia, Shadows, Rom, Micolash, and the Wet Nurse. Everywhere else you run into optional areas and bosses without any effort.

DS2 DLC bosses are massively overrated. Only 2cats is truly hard because of the bullshit to get there. I beat Fume Knight, the supposedly toughest nigger, after the fourth try. He's cake once you figure out which attack is the one with the wonky hitbox.

Today I was playing it on PS3 after about 3 years and first I got clipped through the floor by a fucking skelly in early catacombs who parried and riposted me and lost 11k souls

That by itself was bad enough but twice in different areas I dropped a prism stone to check if the ground was somewhere i could land, and both times it 'landed' i.e. it looked safe. Both times I tried jumping down and died. Wtf.
Game still has the best atmosphere IMO.
I think I finally put my finger on why it was so good. It evokes the aesthetic of 6th-gen Jap action games like ResEvil, but brings the world into some kind of high fantasy style instead of a contemporary setting.

That;s what I mean by rigid linearity. The critical path is 1 path with 1 progression and 1 order of completion. There's lots of optional areas branching, but no branching path leads to progression in the game, they're just dead-ends with loot and a boss. But you only got a single way to get to them and have to defeat them in that order. You have many ways to reach quelaag or gargoyles first. You can do Sif and 4kings whenever, you can do the lord souls in any order.
The non-linearity is about the mandatory part being flexible instead of a fixed skeleton wrapped around optional content.

Are you going for a pure challenge run naked at each bosses, or just a low level run?

the Broad Sword can be found in the same room you find your very first Estus Shard, it's only slightly worse than the Astora Straight Sword when raw in terms of damage.

Use Crossbows and Bows a lot. The range advantage makes getting to the bosses much easier.

Pick up the Lloyd's Shield Ring from the Paladin's ashes ASAP. Prevents you from being one-shotted by virtually every boss in the game.

One of my biggest complaints with DaS3 in general is the shear amount of enemy re-use.
Thralls are a primary enemy through like 4 major areas of the game with no variation in their moveset. High Wall hollows are reused as the primary enemies of the Cathedral of the Deep and Lothric Castle. Ghru and Crabs are completely out of place in Smouldering Lake, but shoved in there anyways. Hell, even the Undead Settlement hollows get reskinned as guards in Irithyll Dungeon.

Some enemy types reappearing or making cameos in other areas (like the leech guys in the dungeon jail cells), but when so many areas just reuse basic enemies from earlier in the game as their main enemy types, and only have 1 or 2 new enemy or variants to serve as seldom-encountered elites, it crosses into the territory of lazy asset reuse.

The only other thing I can really suggest is to hold onto pretty much every boss soul and/or weapon you find that you're able to wield (with proper stat rings).

Use the Carthus Milkring to wield the Bandit's Knife and combine it with Carthus Rogue to kill the Sillyman's beast you encounter on the Irithyll bridge easily.

if you're not comfortable with oneshots, use Sield Ring/stack health/defence
Broadsword/Longsword/Axe are good early game weapons. you can use ASS once you kill Gundyr. Bandit Knife with Rouge kills Crystal Sage in seconds. good for Dancer and Oceiros too. crossbow is good for dealing with mobs. Dragonslayer's Axe+10 buffed with lightning kills King of the Storm in seconds
you can get a +7 weapon before Dancer: 1 chunk drops from the lizard in Smouldering Lake, you can get another by trading Black Firebomb to the crow. Alluring Skulls can help you get through many areas, especially Irithyll. fire attacks stun some enemies and are good for dealing with dogs. Hidden body is userful in Archdagon Peak (and any area, actually)

Any and all casting schools could use pyromancy without any penalty, since it scaled to a combined softcap rather than a shared one.

Magic in DS2 was essentially only dependent on your opponent being retarded. If he had at least some experience no matter what spell combos you used you could never EVER hit them. All of spells had immense startups, even theoretically fast spells like great combustion were painfully slow and could be avoided purely on reaction. Passive play destroyed DS2 magic worse than any other magic in series and there was an entire twitchspin meta built around abusing passive play and shitty netcode handling of running attacks.

Strafing won't work if mage would release affinity at close distance. Luckily DaS2 has easiest soulmass control in series. Now, it's not entirely unavoidable without roll, you can sprint past mage and onward to outsprint affinity, but in this case mage can do melee or great combustion or dark dance to make you roll and hit with affinity instead.
You can see CSS cast, but if you have affinity to also worry about, or soul shower, or HHSA it's another deal.

Ah, I forgot about Alonne. He's hard but not extremely so. Most of the difficulty comes from the fact that he's quick to punish, more so than anything else in the game. You really have to time your sips with that one.
But as far as the other go:
Elana is pretty standard caster boss, the hardest part could be when he randomly summons Ves, but he's easy to ignore because Elana is not that fast herself.
Sinh is not incredibly easy, but he has a set pattern to his flight and dives, you can figure it out during the first fight itself because he's not particularly aggressive in the air.
Aava's only bullshit attack is the magic roar, otherwise it feels like a tamer version of Sanctuary Beast.
BIK by himself is not tough, suffers from a lot of the flaws Pursuer does, specially when it comes to the jump attack.
Im not sure if I should bother mentioning the "co-op" bosses, because they all feel badly cooked up. One if a generic ganksquad that's so often in this games, other is the same boss 2x, and the last one is a reskin from a vanilla boss.
The bosses in the 3rd game (so far) all feel like they had much more thought put into them. Hardly any fight feels like one another, and makes them easier or hard with different builds, something that I don't feel as much in past games. It's really hard to tell if a boss in DS3 is hard or easy because of that. Sully for example, was hell on my greatsword using character, but cake on my pyromancy caster.

It has by far the best pyromancy in series and also second best offensive miracles only weighted down by the lack of fast casting options like ds1's wog.
It also has great farron dart, by far the most useful and versatile offensive sorcery spell in series.
