It's badly designed. Too random. The point where skill comes into it is too narrow between the RNG making you a pea shooter and death, destroyer of rooms.

If anyone's on the lookout for a new twinstick shooter with roguelite elements, I got Neon Chrome this sale and I surprisingly like it. Not the greatest shooting and not fast paced enough to my liking, but some neat ideas and it's really fucking polished. Plus, destructible environments means you can really stealth your way through shit.

focus on boarding and hope you get lucky enough to get a decent weapon that lets you take down zolton shields, ion preferably
prioitize lvl 2 teleporter, you need at least a lvl 2 to prevent your crew from suffocating to death when they board oxygenless ships. Upgrading the medbay to lvl 2 is actually useful since otherwise you crew won't be fully healed by the time the cooldown for the teleporter is up.

I've tried melee for the captain before, I started the fight using a melee weapon, and I died in less than a second, I can only imagine that using the jackhammer on her would be an absolutely awful idea if you consider the fact that she can charge/punch you. No, gungeon. The same gimmicks are repeated over and over with each gun and they all wind up feeling the same with a handful of exceptions.
Also NT's guns have way more punch to them whereas gungeon always feels like I'm using peashooters, which about 60% of the weapons are anyway

- Remove unconditional reflection from Melee weapons by reducing the range that they can reflect projectiles and limit it to the initial frames of the swipe animation. As a payoff, make reflected projectiles travel faster and deal more damage.
- (Doing that in general fixes that blindspot between melee swipes and the player)
- Revert E.Hammer's ammo cost to the old amount. Reduce E.Hammer's range to lower the effectiveness of tunnel ratting, rather than making the weapon unpleasant to use in general. (If the above is done, you could make the reflect range the destruction range)
- Make Shotgun Shoulders increase the speed of shells on top of the bouncing. It's an utterly useless mutation in open areas.
- Make Recycling Gland proc with pop bullets. I don't care that they're firing shells, they're using bullet ammo
- More Flamepop weapons
- Add an actual downside to cursed weapons. Higher ammo use for cursed weapons? Fourth dimensional beings periodically coming to our world to reclaim what is rightfully theirs? Increase weapon drop rate of high-tier weapons when double cursed, just to piss people off? Something.

They're all pretty good, commando and engie are the most beginner friendly. You just have to kite and prioritize enemies like the elite variants that fire missiles at you. Abuse higher ground against enemies that can't jump up to them and abuse piercing attacks against the enemies who chase you down

Get artifact of Command and Glass, they're in the hive/snow area respectively.
The first one makes the game piss-easy, it's cheesy almost.
The second one makes the game much faster and more fun, also it's a free bonus if you happen to hit 9999 health anyway.
The other characters are different but they won't carry you to the end.
And as always, keep playing until you git gud.

Thanks guys, I've always enjoyed these types of games but they are always difficult to say the least. Could never get very far in Rogue Legacy either, despite loving it.
What usually fucks me up beyond belief are the damned jellyfish or other flying enemies. I get the kiting and abilities, but having to jump around to kill these things while I'm avoiding ten other enemies is tough.

Flying enemies are really squishy, I usually just lure them to a spot where no enemies are and take them out from there. The jellyfish line themselves up at your level if you have enough open ground, also actives like the missile launcher really excel at taking them out
