If you're reaching the point where your characters are getting empty level ups, they've reached the peak of their strength, as they've maximized their effectiveness at all the areas that define them.
For example, if your Elise capped Luck, Magic and Speed, you shouldn't get upset that she isn't leveling Defense. Her defense growth is shit and you wouldn't want her to be a tanky defense unit anyway. That's not what she exists for.

Alright, Michlan, let me tell you why RNG isn't as bullshit as you're making it out to be and why it's impossible for a 0% to hit but a 100% to miss
Let's start with the way Fates RNG works. Rather than having it based off of a shitload of hidden values, like other games, it takes it's RNG calculations from a somewhat simple algorithm. Let's say for battles, It puts in your characters given hitrate(which is determined from stats) and runs them through said algorithm, along with a few other numbers. That is your given hit chance, from 100 to 0.Now, let's say you have a hitrate of 98. If your hitchance comes to 98 or lower, you will hit. This is a very simple explanation, as it uses a 2-number system, but you get the idea.
Now, the reason you can miss a 100% is from rounding. The gme rounds every number up, so even if your hitrate is actually 99.0000000001, it will show 100. Because of this, and the 2-number system, you have a (one in a million, nearly) chance of missing an attack.
Levels work roughly the same way, only it uses 1--number RNG and your growths are your hitrates.

Random is an imperfect system, but it works very well. Keep in mind, it could have been a lot worse. I assume you have never played the earlier FE games.

I'm not too annoyed by Revelation's maps. Chapter 11 was the worst offender so far mostly because of how retarded the bamboo trap system works in it, but I utilized it to max out Sakura so that she can promote and start contributing to combat as well as healing. Chapter 12's enemy placement on Flora's boat can also be pretty shit since it forces you to use your OP Avatar if you don't want your Ninjas to eat a dumb crit from the Zerkers (It is a crime to place Zerkers and Sorcs near one another).
How much worse will it get? Thankfully I'm playing with the buff patch so I do have usable units besides MU. Hana and Tsubaki are getting benched anyways though because of how little they contribute while requiring way too much effort to level up.
I ended up just cheesing my Lunatic Birthright playthrough with Ryoma. Part of me wants to do a 'proper' playthrough but another part of me says its just not worth it.

The next annoying chapter I can think of is chapter 16+17. 16 has a weird dragon vein gimmick and lots of promoted enemies who can fuck you over, 17 is just difficult, namely due to a pitifully small deployment pool and a cluster fuck of powerful cavalry units rushing you right at the beginning.
Plus for whatever reason they're conjoined like the endgame chapters, meaning that you need to beat both 16 and 17 in one go without saving, and if you game over or reset in 17 you have to start from the beginning of 16 again.

Gonna be honest, but for my current Lunatic Rev playthrough I'm not using a lot of the units that you are like orochi, Hayato, and setsuna. Endgame only allows 15 units plus Corn, and 9 of those are already being taken up by the royal siblings and azura. You can't have both and Orochi!Rhajat has decent skill though at the expense of her speed but Kana has good speed to make up for the loss.
And you use dragonstones anyway just for the free HP restoration on Kana. You don't want to primary in them due to the fact that the strongest one tanks your Mag/Skill when you use it and can't double due to it. And dragonstones even drop your skill when equipped.

Best ones, unsurprisingly, are Corrin and the royals. Outside of them, Kagero is the original that I would say held up the best. Asugi is pretty decent. Reina and Shura held up pretty well. Really, the main thing is a good str growth. You can get by with magic and a Flame Shuriken, but most people that have magic growths are basically glass cannons.

I only made Rinkah a Ninja for 2 levels for Poison Strike so that she can be a good noodle-arm debuffing physical tank.

Yeah, the skill growth was why I picked Flora out of all the Corrinsexuals. Her speed might be more salvageable in Conquest because of earlier recruitment time. Regardless, she makes the transition better than some others because of innate shuriken ranks.
Samurai/Swordmaster and Ninja/Master Ninja have the same speed growth, so mine should give you an idea. You also get 5% more str growth in those classes, so maybe that'll help you a point or two. Honestly, if I were ever trying to use Rinkah long term, I'd try to get her Berserker somehow. At least then her strength can make it to coinflip, and they use axes.

Flora isn't a front-liner anyways. Though her high Skl combined with Duelist's Blow, Vantage, Sol/Aether, and a good offensive proc skill will probably make it pretty hard to kill her. That's how I plan to build her anyways.

I went +skill on my Corrin for Hoshidan Unity/Nohrian Trust shenanigans, so I wanted to pass that to Kana. Also, I didn't have access to Anna because I didn't feel like shelling out the money.
Fair point on Blacksmith I guess, although her Def score is already higher than her str score, so it can afford to take the hit more. Even going Berserker, she'll only have 5% more str growth than def.

I was leaning towards Sky Knight or Shrine Maiden to have another cute generic girl, but I'm open to suggestions.

I wouldn't say it's fun, but it's not hair-pullingly frustrating like how most people seem to sell it as. It encourages turtling which can trigger certain demographics. The unit balance upsets me more than the map design to be honest. At least I did download the unit buff patch. I top have been getting pretty blessed growths, especially for MU, Rinkah, Kagerou, (though her HP barely increases), Orochi (not much Speed but it's expected), Kaze, Mozoomers (of course), and Sakura. Oboro's and Takumi's are all right I guess. My Saizou keeps on getting Mag insead of Str though lel.

I already know that I'll be using all the royal siblings (except for Ryoma because he's no fun) and Kiragi, Soleil and Forrest. The rest I'll decide along the way based on who performs well. Kaze has been getting alright growths so probably him, but other than that I'm not planning to use anyone that I've recruited so far. Was hoping to use Subaki and get that Selena!Caeldori, but he's doomed to get terrible growths on all my runs it seems. Same thing with Oboro.

Mozu actually feels like a more versatile and fair Archer than Takumi so I'm not sure if I'm going to use him that much. My Oboro has been getting more defensive level ups than offensive ones, which I don't know how to feel about. My Baki was benched after I got Reina to take care of flying duties. He's just so fucking bad.

Ryoma is, at least in Birthright. He'd one shot pretty much anything and get hit by nothing. You could just throw him in the middle of enemies and let them suicide on him. Takumi is good in the beginning, but might fall behind in the end. Or maybe I just got unlucky with his growths. My +skill femui makes good use of him though and Kiragi turns out great. Oboro makes for a decent tank if you give her Guard Naginata, that's what I was planning, but for me the situation is the opposite, she keeps getting no defense at all.

He doesn't grow enough Speed to deal damage effectively when fighting anything that's not a flier, Outlaw, Dark Mage, or Ninja, the only things which he can OHKO. He doesn't get much Def growth and keeps on getting Skl and Lck instead of Str. His base HP is pretty good but if he doesn't get much Def it's useless. I don't like relying on 25% crit in one hit to kill enemies. That's the only thing he has over Mozu right now, dealing about +4 more damage per shot and has pre-promotion crit rates.
Oboro is pretty good at tanking though I'd prefer she gets some Speed and Str level ups too. For a noodle-arm physical punching bag I already have Rinkah.

Yeah, for me defense is Takumi's biggest problem. I like to get him Seal Defense from Spear Fighter, but it would be more useful if he could actually take a hit. It's still good for weakening foes and letting someone else finish them. I decided I would only use units I like in Revelation, so I'm willing to put some work into it. His personal skill is pretty useful too, especially together with Kamui's personal. I've never used Mozu much but I can see why she would do well as a Sniper. She has some cute support convos too.
