It's not really overdone enough to be considered ironic or funny. The story also goes with a straight face about telling how a monster with a human soul would actually be a very powerful being, so him having anime-tier attacks doesn't feel like a joke or out-of-place thing either.
If it's supposed to be an ironic joke it plays itself to ground before the punchline pretty hard.
