When golden came out, I played it a bit with a guide and it was kinda boring.

surefire way to not enjoy these games. Just do you, and if doing you doesn't beat the bosses just grind a bit. Rotate your saves and do what you would do in all circumstances, these are roll playing games in the truest sense of the term.
P4 takes about 4-6 hours before you actually get to the game. P3 is a little faster but you don't get to the REALLY GOOD stuff until about the 80% mark. As for P4 the game hits it's stride early and stays there. You'll want to look up a spoiler free ending guide when you hit november in P4 though.
