DaS2 DLC demonstrated Tanamura had developed a clear understanding of the kind of tension that makes Souls bosses satisfying and intense: aggressive bosses and healing slow enough that you had to wait while on the verge of death to heal. Bloodborne and Demons Souls have healing that bosses can't keep up with, and most hard BB bosses kill by landing full health pseudo combos. In Dark Souls 1 you can just stack poise and chug down bosses. DaS2 had the best and most satisfying boss fights because it had good mechanics and excellent design.

Slide is best part. It's tense to dodge because you have to wait until the charge starts. If you get sucked onto his sword with decent adaptability you probably deserved it, if you could get right next to it and avoid the blood buff the fight wouldn't be nearly as interesting.

If it was Cleric Beast, you can't parry. Father Gascoigne you can, though, as well as some other bosses that come later.
You don't need to get out of range, either. Your quick-steps give you invincibility frames, so if timed correctly you can dodge right through attacks. There will always be some kind of visual or audio cue for an attack, and generally a reliable way to simply avoid any attack is to move to the boss's side or rear. That's not universal advice though.

The whole games story, lore, and a shitton of its design completely revolves around "hey guys, remember how we made Dark Souls 1 and you all loved it?"
The problem is while Dark Souls was a genuine labour of love and that showed throughout the game DaS3 feels like just a reference.
Even fucking DaS2 was at least trying to be it's own thing with the story and trying to be clever with the cycles shit.
Also the weapons are extremely samey and bland, even more so than the previous two Souls games (and comparing it to BB would just be cruel) and many of the bosses are either too easy or are just plain gimmicks meant to give a more "cinematic" experience than be actual bosses.

The basic rundown was when they tested the AK it didn't actually work very well, AK fags went on suicide watch, when they test the AR-15 it actually preformed extremely well, and when they tested the VZ-58 VZfags flipped shit and either went suicide watch or full on denial mode.

Base game BB really wasn't that great in comparison with the rest of the series. Gehrman is the only truly fantastic boss, and if you level vitality few things will be able to kill you. A lot of the mobs are samey (three Yharnamites with weapon, one with a gun, a couple of dogs, maybe additional Brick Troll for difficulty, alternatively, the dumb crows who are extremely annoying and unlikely to kill you and are pasted all over the entire fucking game). The NPCs forgettable relative to other Souls games, and it never got me to feel particularly emotional like some of its predecessors did. The longer loading times at launch made the inability to warp between lanterns or rest for farming much more obnoxious, and having to farm blood echos for vials discouraged any very challenging runs (it would get annoying for me with Orphan, but that was later. In any case it was a direct downgrade that can only be defended with git gud). There were still very good things about Bloodborne (excellent weapon variety with a handful of extremely fun weapons, great aesthetics, cool universe) but it wasn't leaps and bounds ahead of the other Souls games in any fair sense, although I won't expect the people still in this general to be unbiased about it. I would say the DLC brought it to the head of the pack, but it doesn't blow the other games out of the water base game. You may like Bloodborne's more reckless, aggressive combat where a lot of bosses feel like slugfests, but Souls bosses can have their own kind of tension where your heart races as you desperately look for an opportunity to heal, and that's good too.

First location? No. I guess you could keep playing and just ignore him, and maybe triggering him moving to his second position will reset his aggro. That being said, it's safer to just restart: you're not too far in.

I sort of agree and disagree.
I kind of get your point about Npcs (the doll, Arianna, and Adella are the only interesting ones really, unless you count Iosefka or the vile blood queen) and there are like five great bosses in the base game. But even coming back to BB after playing DS1 it feels so much more consistent and densely packed with lore, cool combat scenarios and just neat little details that it feels greater than the sum of its parts. The base game is also fucking short when you think about it but if anything what prevented DS from being consistent throughout was it's long length, BB and DeS are the two games Miyazaki has made that feel complete, consistent and just non stop fun.
Also it's just fucking cool, like I play DS to feel like some wandering knight up against all odds but then when I play Bloodborne it just feels like you're on a constant rampage.
You are right though Blood vials are fucking stupid and break up the gameplay way too much your first time through.
