You have too much reverb on the drums and they're losing punch because of that. Play around with the settings like high cut, low cut, high damping.
That and you should have very minimal reverb on kick if any at all.

That's okay though. Experience is the best medicine for that. Tone down on the reverb, slap a compressor(soundgoodizer B I think if you're lazy) and see what happens. You really don't need a lot of reverb if the drums pop out correctly.

Make some kind of rhythm with drums or percussion or whatever.
Start the actual songwriting with chord progression, plan it with bassline or backing chords.
Start writing some sort of melody on top of the beat and the backing.
Write another melody on different part and rhythm that differently from the first one.
Write a similar chord progression as the first one or modify the first one for another part before it gets repetitive with the original chord progression.
Now write melody on top of that just like you did before.
Flesh out the drums.
That's more or less the workflow I go with, omitting mixing, synthesis and some other stuff. There's little rules to writing melody and that's probably the hardest part, but if you're really having trouble, the main idea is that 1. it should follow a rhythm you like 2. it should be in harmony with the chord being played. Both of these are pretty literally play-it-by-ear sort of thing.
