No. You can get out of specific moves with a proper just defend and a perfect reversal. Virtually all set-ups are completely unaffected by it.

Because the attacker can't apply braindead pressure if the opponent is good at just defending since you still have to account for his reversals. There are only certain games just defend that affects framedata is applicable though. As far that I know KoF XIV doesn't have long blockstrings, so the way they did just defend is better for their game.

Stick is the most innaccurate thing you could input 4 directions with. Dpad is better but also has its limitations. Keyboard/hitbox is objectively the only meaningful way to input 4 directions individually, one key per finger/thump.

No, in that situation having the buttons on each finger is even better. You assume a wasd layout when it would be in fact a asd space layout. Dpads, analogue and sticks are not optimal devices. They are made to feel comfortable to use or in the sticks case just made to withstand teenager violence.

There are no traditional crossups in melty outside a few characters/select setups because of crossup protection, and j. B isn't even a crossup move anyway.
Nero's j. B is mostly better for neutral in a lot of situations because it doesn't have an huge hurtbox with an even slower startup 8and if you know how air counterhits work in melty you know just how bad this is).
it's also a great jump in. Not to say j. C is bad/useless, but you REALLY don't want to spam it if the opponent is good. A lot of people complain because they can't into counter poking it and they just keep teching into it and eating it over and over again.

You have no idea how the neutral in Melty works.
When attacking in the air you have to take in account:
-Your height (and your opponent's)
-Your speed (and your opponent's)
-The direction you're going (and your opponent's)
-Which move is the most likely to win
-If none, which air option (you have 4) would give you the advantage back
-Throws work even more as intended than in any ground game (beat blocking and are not used as a mixup tool)
Also if you're going air to ground both players have as many tools to bait the opponent (anti-air, air to air, shield, crossunder, double jump IAD bait etc)
