Well, I simply tried replacing the animation files with some others, but I guess the sleep animation has the npc float a certain distance off the ground so it looks like they are sleeping on the bed.
After starting the game up, they were using the animation I replaced the files with, but they were sleeping on the ground under the bed.

it IS how it works, just because they haven't 'enforced' their rights on mods yet doesn't mean that they can't. they literally OWN ALL the mods, there are exceptions such as FNIS and texture packs, animation packs, etc, but for the most part they own all the mods and can do whatever the fuck they want with them or remake and resell them as they please and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
nexus has created this 'hug box' for modders and helps make them think that they actually have IP, when 99.9% of them don't have any rights at all. the fact that bethesda has thus far kept at arms reach is more for PR than anything else and because to enforce their rights too strongly would destroy the modding community which would hurt all of us, including themselves. taking control or rebuilding ONE mod to make things work for everyone is far from being out of their reach if they choose to or decided that they had to in order to drastically increase profits and compatibility for everything.
