It's very much a problem with any artist. Bruckner and Janáček for instance both had students that published post-humous editions of their music, much of which were heavily modified from the originals (and are by every means completely inferior to the originals). Due to the fact that they were dead after these publications were made though, it took decades of musicology to actually put in a proper critical edition that had the original conception fully in mind. Artists have it tough.

Well, VN fans really dug their own grave here by almost exclusively purchasing porn-filled high school romance garbage. Whenever a real gem of art comes out it tends to be disguised as such or it simply fails to sell and crashes the company. Liar Soft and Rail Soft games are perhaps the best games of companies consistently producing worthwhile "art", but their games sell so poorly they have to be practically financed by a few rich fans. In short, why would localizers care about VNs as an art form when the readers certainly don't?

Porn and schlocky romance sells. This is as true in VNs as it is in literature. A decent chunk of supposed high-brow literature also has exquisitely detailed sexual interactions. It's just a part of life and the illustration of such does no necessarily detract from it being art.
This isn't really worth getting upset about in the first place since any art form has its fair share of populist crap that the lowest common denominator will eat up. Movies have it. Literature has it. Music has it. Any art form has it. The majority of people will flock towards whatever is most comfortable and easiest to understand and this will always hold true. This doesn't mean that absolutely no-one cares about the art form strictly for its artistic merits, but you'll find that it is a minority just like in every other form of media. Artists have been embracing this reality for centuries.

Basically, that it's only worth the money if it's longer, which I think is silly, in this case in particular because the game is fairly long (though not as long as the original) and significantly higher quality than the average VN that gets translated.

The significant difference is that all the things you listed can be created by individuals, whereas it's much harder for VNs to be written by individuals - an author would just write a book, instead, if he had to do it alone. This leaves the VN industry in a much harder place - pretty much all the doujin, 1 man "VNs" are literally just books upon stock photo backgrounds.

As for Rail soft, just try out 紅殻町博物誌 or 霞外籠逗留記 (when you're pretty damn good at Japanese, I might add). If you like them, then go ahead and read EVERYTHING rail soft's released - every rail soft game is written by Mareni and it's all good (if you like Mareni). I wouldn't recommend starting with Albatross.
As for Liar Soft, the quality is a lot more sporadic due to different writers. Most games written by Sakurai Hikaru are worth playing. 蒼天のセレナリア for an introduction to the Steampunk series, Forest for a 2deep4u story, or try out the recently released フェアリーテイル・レクイエム - it's very unique and fresh, esp. with the visuals.
However, keep in mind, none of these are games you should feel compelled to play even if you're bored - if you don't like more literary VNs, like most people it seems, then don't push yourself.

Good VN if you like historical settings, samurai, and moe girls. Most people probably won't even give it a try because it's only the first chapter, but I say give it a go because it covers all the events of the Chuushingura which is pretty satisfying by itself.The later chapters basically cover the same events leading up to the raid because the protag is stuck in a time loop, but it didn't feel repetitive at all to me since the MC takes a different course of action each time and it covers characters and events that didn't appear previously since it follows a different heroine each chapter. I liked seeing the MC adjust to the time period and grow from a modern person to more of a samurai each chapter with even his speech changing. I mentioned in a previous post how I didn't like that he didn't kill peeps, but he does eventually get more assertive to this, though he hasn't killed anyone other than spoiler.Don't know about how the translation is , also I heard the engine they used is pretty shitty because it's a port.

I liked _______'s route in the ______ fandisc, instead of being pure sex and rabu rabu, though a good deal of the context was sex, time was actually spent showing them conquering relationship problems and becoming a stronger couple. I don't know how other fandiscs work but I liked that aspect of it, I'm sure it would have been easy to be 100% moe or 100% sex or something.

It's hard to remember because of how sex oriented S was, but that's how it was in the original too. You go through the entire route and the sex was just at the end and it was only like 2 or 3 scenes. Then you got like 2 in the after story, which they didn't do for the A games.
That being said, I wish they at least tried to stay even when it came to the number of sex scenes. Sayaka only got 2, Azumi got 3 and Benkei got 4.
