Well, even if the fic one has people throw shit around in a fit of rage, there's no denying that the canon Team 8 is pretty fucking based, if criminally underused.Although I do genuinely prefer both Team 7 and 8 the way that fic had them. The thing about Team 8 that in it's time - like a decade ago, was when it could be considered for praise. But the story is out of it's timezone. It's literally a Dinosaur.

It is based on Part 1, which is by a long shot the best part of the series.
Not having ties to some of the later garbage, beyond what the writer might feel like is appropriate to include (i.e. Nardo's Wind element), with hope that we might get actual ninja shit and not have everything revolve around the latest power of the Sharingan, is one of the best qualities of the thing.

I could definitely paint a realistic face in oil or acrylic if I had like 12 hours + of free time to do it. I've done like 5 or 6 portrait paintings before so I'm pretty comfortable with it, the challenge would be inventing a face that looks enough like the characters, but I could probably photoshop a reference picture out of a real face.

Eh, normally I am all over alternate universe stuff, but RtN just didn't manage to sell itself to me. Maybe if we had more actual alternate shenanigans happening, and the world really was the cornerstone of the film instead being all about Pinkshit in the worst possible ways, I'd be happier with it.
10/10's dream version of it didn't do much to flesh it out either.
That said, it's got good bits. Shy Ino and Bitchnata are obviously great, but there is potential for an overly emotional Sai whose malformed, inept paintings come to life to everyone's regret, or a flat Tsunade being bossed around by Shizune and her rack.

Oops, I totally missed this question when I read through the thread when I woke up.
If you're someone who is used to drawing traditionally (which I'm assuming you are because no tablet) then a regular digitizer with no screen might take you like a week or two to get used because hand/eye is separated, but that being said a lot of people learn to prefer that. but an intuos or other "traditional" Wacom digitizer will be a lot cheaper than an iPad pro or widows surface. Of course if you were going to buy one of those two things anyways I would say go for it because I've seen people use both of those things as drawing devices with good results. Unfortunately if you're a fan of drawing on a screen directly (which I am because I usually draw by hand on paper) then your options are in pretty high price points (a regular cintiq is like $700) so it would make sense as a beginner to use something like an iPad or surface even with their high price IF you were going to get one anyways.
But yeah as I've never owned an iPad or a surface I wouldn't know what to tell you about that but there are a whole bunch of reviews comparing their drawing ability on YouTube.
I've used both of them for like 30 minutes before and I'll tell you that the iPad has some nice drawing apps you can get for pretty cheap on the app store and the surface has jack shit out the box so you'll have to download something like sai which is awesome, and as a full computer the surface can run actual programs as well.

I find that the most important aspect of fanfiction resides in fixing various problems throughout the canonical work through the benefit of hindsight. Naruto's outright obsession with Sasuke is one of the most baffling things throughout the series (when not half joking about homosexuality on Naruto's part, a lot of people give up on explaining the "why" behind it, entirely, and essentially just say that Naruto is mentally ill), and his intention of defending every single thing he did, even telling Sasuke that he would sooner die with him than seriously fight him, was a huge departure from Naruto in Part I, who immediately punched Sasuke at the Valley of the End before yelling at him about how much Shikamaru's team sacrificed. I feel that what happened in the manga was done to curb the focus of the series further towards the most popular character, Sasuke, whether it made sense for Naruto to behave that way or not, and that his reaction in Bijuu War is actually far more understandable.

So for the above scenario, you could have Ino fight Sauce in the prelims of the Exams or something.
He doesn't brutalize her like he did that Sound guy, but he does not have his kiddie gloves on, injures her, knocks her the fuck out.
She is shocked, disgusted, maybe even a bit afraid and angry over how he treated her even though she knows he had no obligation to do otherwise, which then drives her to the realisation that maybe what she should be looking for is something more than 'cool'. She decides to let Sakura have the edgy asshole, maybe even warn her (former) friend about him.
Shit goes on, she ends up on the rescue team for reasons, and sees Gaara come to their rescue.
Over time she is made chuunin on another exam, she volunteers to be an occasional liaison officer like Temari was, gets to know Gaara, about his trying to be a good and gentle person in spite of the shit that happened to him, finds herself genuinely fall in love with the guy.Then she is enraged to find out Gaara is a fucking autist who has a far, far too weird obsession with Naruto.
To me that's a better overall story, even if it takes a bit more to get where I might want it to be, and does not have as much cute shit.

Replace "Gaara" with "Sai" and this is what she did in canon. Sasuke had become a traitor who had attempted to kill her friends. You don't need to create an elaborate reason for why she'd drop what, as far as we could tell, was just a shallow infatuation with him over this, particularly given what we already know about Ino's strong sense of right and wrong.
When characters act in a manner that does not make sense, which is common enough due to Kishi's lack of quality as a writer, I don't consider it a crime to write them in a manner that does.

That's a pretty generous way to infer Ino's characterisation, given that she still dreamt about Sai and Sauce fighting over her, even if that interpretation is one I too prefer myself.
What I am saying is that it would be silly to have Ino in the Chuunin Exam arc just do that outright. It's completely baseless in the written exam, after she sees him go full edge in the Forest it's workable, but to me it would need something more 'real' to her personally, not just seeing how he treats a proper enemy.
It's all about gradual departure from Kishi's vision, flavoured with generous interpretation. Do it too easily, and you lose opportunities for character growth and a worthwhile story.
So, in that fic you could have the scene where Nardo is named Hokage after the Pein attack, sure, and be faced witha question of what to do about the Sauce situation. He could bluff, saying that he will hear Ayy's charges personally, talk it over with Kakashi and Shikamaru, have his first instinct be sticking by his friend, but fundamentally knowing who was in the right and wrong, knowing what the right thing really was.
I guess what I am saying is that too easy developments are appreciated less when you make them?

It had good bits, I grant you. The kid Kakashi part is the only one that really lives up to NUNS3 in the story mode, and in all fairness they did have a massive problem of the source material War Arc just not being very good, focusing on too few characters with not enough to spice things up, and all of it taking place in a single crater.
That said not giving Teams 8 and 10 a last chance to shine when they got that in the manga was disappointing, same as with Taka v Zetsu'd up Yamato, the Hokages' fights were mostly missing, the whole thing felt unfinished and unpolished.
As for the Adventure Mode, while I liked that the missions tended to be a bit more in depth, there needed to be more of them, even as just flavour to add to the more richly realised ones. Also they made it so you now teleport from one location to the next, for whatever reason.
There were no challenge fights like in NUNS3 (Full Burst addition? The PC version was automatically that, so I can't, in all fairness compare base game to base game)..
Additionally NUNS3 really worked the Hero/Legend theme very well; complete with the party system it all felt rather RPG-ish.
By comparison 4 hasn't offered as much of the nice flavour that I liked (seriously, why the fuck remove the personalised buff items or team names?), even though it did admittedly add nice features like leader switching and more team UJs.

The fact that Ino's Infinite Tsukuyomi dream wasn't about Sasuke in particular, but about two physically attractive guys fighting over her, flattering her ego, with Sasuke saying things that anyone who actually knew him would know he who would never say to anyone would actually support this inference.
It's not like Ino ever really carried the torch for Sasuke, as most of her interest in boys appeared to be largely superficial; she immediately hit on Chouji as soon as he slimmed down from the food pills and was suddenly handsome. If it was up to me, I think I'd have her get some weird dream powers and do slightly twisted and fantastic stuff. He sort of chimeraed himself together by slapping on foreign body parts to make up for his missing ones and said "all better," then he gained ancient, lost abilities by munching on people, and lived in an imaginary world where normal humans couldn't touch him. It would obviously be less about eye hacks, though. I also think it wouldn't fit to have her get a summon with it, but it's not like the slugs ever did anything anyway.

There was one story focusing on Nardo learning sealing stuff/the Uzumaki clan and it even made the 'proper' Team 7 feel pretty okay, but it fucked up and made characters much too powerful. So he's done a rewrite of Part 1, added a whole bunch of buildups and what have you largely based on some of the more interesting filler missions, did the training with Jiraiya where powerlevels climbed even higher, and when he got to Part 2 and Gaara's stuff as per canon, it became blatantly awkward just how powerful Nardo et al have gotten, and how they'd make mincemeat out of the Akatsuki.

Sakura was literally all over Sasuke every single chance she got. Naruto and Hinata wouldn't have to be super mushy (especially under Kishi), they'd just have a friendship that blossoms over the course of the series into an eventual relationship. It'd be the same as the canon but with less SasuSaku and more NaruHina. Hinata, unlike Sakura, wouldn't be a huge bitch to her other teammate for the sake of supporting her crush, either.

But is it really enough to switch them? Sakura could learn Genjutsu from Kakashi and Hinata doesn't need to be on Team 7 to be a medic.

The best I can see is her being upset about it since he was her teammate and does support Naruto for still having hope him. The whole "Naruto never giving up" thing and stuff. I don't know about part 2 confrontations with sasuke with her included. But like I said, the problem with Sakura being around Sasuke is that she didn't grow as a character and mature around him.

We still need to consider who is the main writer. If Hinata really ended up in Team 7 there is no telling how much would Kishi or his editors destroy her character by making her a main character. I think that all in all Hinata being in a separete team was better, what I would love to see is more missions where teams join forces to clear bandit camps or guard the caravan. Show and create the feeling of friendship and camaraderie between the Konoha 12
