i like the art style and the community is on the chill side for an online mmo. the story was good but got kind of redundant and boring after passing into heavensward. the fetch quests really kill the pacing and gil has little to no worth. there hasn't been one instance where i needed gil for something and its just handed out in every "go talk to this guy quest" like its nothing.
i want to play this game again but all i ever find myself doing is logging on and healing in a daily which is 90% of the time sastasha for some newbie then logging off. i feel like there's more to achieve in this game what am i missing

Macros are for things you know you can hq almost 100% of the time. I make mine after careful experimentation. Once in a blue moon I'll get a normal quality result, but it's like 1 in 50 attempts, maybe more. I don't think people macro expensive crafts but you could with high enough stats.

That guy's nerfs are a little overboard (there's no point in nerfing Embrace's potency AND making it useless in Cleric stance; his DT change doesn't nerf it so much as just makes it completely pointless) but SCH right now is in a position where it's too powerful not just in relation to other healing classes but in relation to the game's basic combat system and all the other classes, as well as pretty much any sort of encounter that SE can design.
The game is basically stuck in a huge rut until they fix SCH. That doesn't mean nerfing it into the ground and making it garbage, but it does mean toning down some of its more overpowered toys.

Honestly, not really. Craftings usefulness fluctuates from patch to patch. Some times it is god tier and you make a lot of money, other times its a fucking waste.
Unless you have some autistic hard on about having a "complete" character with all 60 jobs, then probably not.
The only thing I'd recommend is maxing out the gathering jobs, and possibly culinarian.

I've been talking about this with a few buddies and I think a large part of it is the huge disconnect between this game's story and its content. The Dragonsong War never once felt like a war more than a brief skirmish between a handful of literal whos on both the dragon and Ishgardian/Eorzean sides.
That, and we have no real "content" to push the significance of the game's theme. Raid content is delegated to shitty goblins doing nothing and muh scar voidsent. Mhach is sky pirates doing their own thing. There's nothing large-scale that really contributes to the central theme of the expansion like coil did for 2.0 (and to a lesser extent the CT series which still focused heavily on Allagan shit).

Anyone here from Cerberus who doesn't like players botting? If so then you might want to have an eye on Clara Norman.
She's a gatherer who doesn't appear to do anything else and always seems to be online 24/7. One of those gatherers who teleport to every map to get to the next spawning node, just more "hardcore". She sometimes comes back to a map to continue on the type of timed nodes she was working on previously. Always quick with teleporting and going to places.
Sure, that's no proof of them being a (part-time) bot, but I've noticed something. You know how gatherers go to regular nods to check them for maps or to respawn the timed one? Clara does that too, but sometimes teleport right after checking a regular node. Quite often actually, especially at nights where there aren't many on. To me it doesn't look like human behaviour but a bot following its orders. After all it's forced to teleport away to catch the next one in an entirely different map.
It's suspicious to me, but not enough to bother the GMs about it. She might be a tryhard after all. Still keeping an eye on "her".

The disparity between the tanks and the healers are not comparable. What chiefly sets the tanks apart is DPS, like it does for most classes. Yet even if you look at the biggest different between WAR and PLD in the top parses for A8S on FFlogs, the difference is only around 100-150 DPS. DRK sits in the middle.
WAR gets memed about how great it is, but in reality it's only marginally better than the other two; it does bring useful utility and Storm's Eye does necesistate it, but PLD also brings much more useful raid utility than a WAR does.
The difference in the healers power is that AST and WHM are basically on equal footing, and then you have SCH all the way on the end of the spectrum because they bring so many tools and a fairy that literally lets them DPS as much as they want, plus near-infinity MP, plus high DPS, etc...
It's not really comparable.

I don't like the idea of the fairy becoming useless in Cleric Stance either. I think that takes away from something that makes the class fun and interesting. At the same time, it's clearly way too strong to have a fairy that sits there throwing out 300 potency (even if it is fairy-potency) Embraces 100% of the time.
I'd prefer to see Embrace drastically nerfed, but buffed back up to its current levels while under Rouse. That way the fairy is still a really powerful tool, when you need it, but it wouldn't contribute nearly enough that the SCH himself would only have to drop Cleric for specific high-pressure situations.

Re: Paladin, you said it yourself, but the reason DV doesn't have nearly the same sort of impact is exactly because Paladin is kind of bad overall apart from DV. If AST had DT instead of Scholar, and the rest of each class's kit was unchanged, the conversation would probably be pretty different. A bad class having a strong ability as their saving grace is a lot different than a powerful class having an even more powerful ability to cement their place in every single raid group.
However, having said that, Divine Veil is nowhere near as strong as DT. At 10% of the PLD's HP, Divine Veil is about a 2900 HP shield, in full 240 with food. Adloquium (in endgame gear) is about 10% stronger than that, just by default. And then on top of that, it gets a free 20% boost from Defiance, another 20% from Convalescence, and then it continued to be modified by every other buff to healing magic.
Assuming that a 300 potency Adlo heals/shields for 3000 HP with no buffs (that's lowballing it, a lot), a fully-buffed non-crit Adlo shields for an effective 746 potency (300 * 1.2 Defiance * 1.2 Convalescence * 1.2 Mantra * 1.2 Fey Illumination * 1.2 Dissipation), or roughly 7500 HP.

Paladin brings exactly one piece of useful raid utility to the table. Divine Veil is great for absorbing one heavy party-wide hit every two minutes.
Warrior brings very nearly the exact same amount of raid utility by being able to switch to Defiance with Convalescence up to buff the Scholar's Deployment Tactics. And that's pretty shit utility compared to Storm's Path.
DRK having Reprisal arguably matches PLD's useful raid-wide utility in a lot of fights (not all; for instance definitely not A8S), simply because the ~50% uptime on it means that it's going to be there in more places where extra mitigation is handy.

What if a boss had an attack that removed shields in the same way that Nidhogg's knock-back roar in p1 removes vuln? Or you could have a debuff that did the same (or converted shields to HP, etc), or a fight with actual constant raid-wide damage that whittled away shields? Or attacks that didn't have a cast bar or went off at a random time so you couldn't deploy fast enough? Or they could do a two part attack that eliminated shields (but wipes the raid if you don't deploy before-hand, like prey in a5s but instead of damage down a fatal bleed) and then deals big regular damage?
Maybe if they stopped designing 100% scripted encounters with raid-wide ultimate attacks featuring cast bars and speech pop-up cues deployment tactics wouldn't be so useful.
