So it seems like we have a perfect storm happening here. Control Warrior has hard counter decks, but you can't play those hard counter decks because Control Warrior is being played heavily as a response to Shaman and Zoo which are bad match ups for Control Warrior's hard counters.

Nah, you can create a healthy meta where every class has at least one competitive deck. Some decks will, of course, be better but they wouldn't be unbeatable and have counters.The problem comes when there's a deck that's too good like shaman right now, secret paladin before standard or any other cancer deck that existed in the past.

It's up to yourself to consider a deck/class/archetype fun. Shaman IMO is fun, I was one of those hipsters who played the class despite being shit. Depends on how much you wanna spend and what cards you have already. I always suggest buying LoE if you have the $$$ since it's an excellent deal, 45 cards for $20 with Discover tutor cards that can help fill in whatever a deck lacks on the fly.
Next best thing would be to buy Classic packs since they're permanent /evergreen and have a lot of good, strong cards still used in the top decks. $40 will get you 50 packs (using Amazon Coins for the discount), 1-2 Legendary cards and plenty of dust from duplicates to craft shit you're missing.
Whenever you have 700 gold go unlock Blackrock Mountain wing 1 for Emperor Thaurissan. The mana reduction is top notch, works in any deck and helps you play combos and heavy hitters early.
Keep doing your daily quests and try to do class quests via Tavern Brawl whenever its a gimmick week that doesn't rely on a strong card collection. You can generate around 400-500 gold a week from quests alone, with another 50g a day if you win 15 matches (maybe use a rush deck/aggro deck for fast 5 minute matches.
With 700g a week from quests and wins you can invest in the new expansions packs, or 1 adventure wing or save for 5 weeks and have enough to buy the next expansion in August or whatever.
TLDR buy Classic and LoE when you can. Do daily quests to buy the new Old God packs. If you find yourself putting a lot of hours into the game it's a worthwhile investment.

I'm a university student, and when I'm not at school, I come home and work as a tour guide in a local cave. It's an amazing job: I get a good work out, meet loads of people, get to see all kinds of mind blowing formations, and spend all day underground in a really fascinating place. 90% of the time everybody on my tours are great and we all have a good time down there.
Not yesterday though. Yesterday I had a pretty small tour for my last tour of the day. There were three families and about 13 people on it. We met outside of the cave and I talked about it for a bit and introduced myself and everything was pleasant. Then we went inside.
When I started talking about the actual science of the place, things got bad. First I said the age of the cave was 20-30 million years old, and a guy from my group interrupted me to say "Umm no, not if creation is true and god put this here." And I, being somewhat bad at conflict and hating confrontation or awkward situations, just stopped for a few seconds and told him that I'm not trying to change his beliefs but that my job is to go by the book and tell everybody the science and history behind the place from that. He scoffed a little bit. I thought that would be the end of it. I picked back up and showed the different formation types and then started the walk to the end of the first half.

Paladins fall is the most shocking thing about this expac, they seemed invincible last expac and like they had all the best cards.

The druid combo was incredibly rage inducing every time and often people felt helpless against secret paladin's insane curve.
This meta solidfied and just stood still + we had the longest wait for an expansion yet.

Imagine starting the game with 15 health. That's what playing against Combo Druid was.
Now imagine a Tempo deck that can fit Divine Shield, a weapon, a Deathrattle, token generation and AoE insurance into its curve, while also boasting buffs, board clear, and the ability to play up to 5 Mana's worth of spells for free instantly. That's Secret Paladin.
Now imagine playing either of those decks, from a probability standpoint, once in every 5 games.
4 mana 7/7 is a drop in the bucket compared to what once was.
