I wouldn't even bother with ranked if you couldn't see the outlines of teammates. It would be much harder to identity friendlies and enemies, especially since you can have the same uniform on both sides because of how operators work. What they really need to do is turn off hit markers, score notifications and maybe crosshairs, but I could care less about crosshairs.
Really though it's pretty dumb that people can rely on notifications to tell them if their wall spam is a hit and whether they downed someone or if they got away.

Overwatch depends on abilities and good guns to win (see: Widowmaker). Majority of the wins in Siege rely heavily on cover and utilizing destruction in the game, which is what anybody can do. It's the reason why Blackbeard gets so much shit: getting mobile cover like a shield but still allowing him to use his rifle is really good.
