Life is Strange is an episodic interactive drama from DONTNOD Entertainment. Seriously though, even given the rough framework Season 1 sets for us (and disregarding that it'd be possible to work around that too), a Rachel prequel could work in various ways. And it'd allow to really dive into the supernatural side of the story, plus it's a chance to learn more about Frank, Nathan and Jefferson.

It could work if they used the actual name "What if?" or "Life is Strange: What If?" where it's told from the dream perspective of Chloe. It jumps around in some parts but the main focus of it is what if Rachel was still alive, Jefferson and Nathan got busted, and what if Chloe called Max to reunite sooner. You swap perspective between Chloe and Rachel so you do get to choose how to go about different issues.
In the end, Chloe wakes up and it's morning of the day she's going to meet Nathan in the bathroom.

There's nothing bad about the end of the game. The storm doesn't come, the bad guys get captured, Max wins the Everyday Heroes Contest (And earns significant praise and attention, and Max and Chloe go on to live long, happy, loving, and productive lives together.

Oh and as for the Chloe angle, Nathan wouldn't have that money on him. Then again, Chloe's whole plan wasn't that smart and originally got her killed. Looking back at episode 4, and the confrontation with Frank, I'm wondering whether the stupidity displayed by Max and Chloe if Frank gets killed is just based on stupidity of the game devs (they didn't realise the obvious alternative), or an intentional choice by them to go for emotion over logic.
I'm sure we all know what I'm talking about, but just in case:

There's no excuse to leave Frank dead. I killed him the first time and then immediately rewound. The best result I got, after a few tries, was leaving Frank with a bullet in his leg.
Max would never leave things like that, and it should have been a forced rewind,but I guess the devs wanted to try the "Max can be bad" route. It doesn't work because there's very few 'evil' choices and the ones that are are just being an asshole. Like killing Pompidou either time (In that scene or at the diner in Ep 3) or killing Frank.
I will say that from watching a YouTube video of after Frank dies that Chloe shows maturity by saying she's turning herself in. But it's not needed. That choice is Just trying to shoehorn in "choices matter" or morality and tragedy, even if it just detracts from the story and makes no sense for the characters to go along with. That was around the point in the game where the writer-induced stupidity went into overdrive and the story became a mess.
Lesson learned though, do NOT piss off Chloe or try to hurt Max in front of her.

They force her out of character just for narrative intention. This is not the first nor last time they did it of course, but it is absolutely one of the most appalling instances. The whole "Does Frank have a gun, is he pissed?"-blabla had to lead to some Real Consequences™ after all, and what is more real and "emotionally impactful" than Character Death™. For that, they ignore how absolutely retarded and downright evil the situation becomes.
There's one tiny "saving grace" to that sequence though. While it isn't a forced rewind like it should have been, or at least something to do with Max's powers failing, it is in the end still the player that forces Max to do what she never would have. She herself always thinks "this is absolutely horrible and only I can change it" - indicating even for the most character-deaf player that Max is compelled to rewind here. If the player chooses not to, it's just him being lazy and "playing a game", rather than the story holding together. I compared it to other mechanically possible but narratively impossible aspects of the game: you can use your rewind to ensure Alyssa gets hit with a football in the head a million times again and again. Doesn't mean Max would do that.

I was willing to overlook the last third of episode 4 being a bit retarded and rushed, they had a fair bit to pack in to one episode whilst still ending with Max in the dark room.
But I expected them to realize you can't get away with rushing the final part of a story, and to prioritize that above everything and make sure it works as a satisfying conclusion to the game. Instead it feels like everything that was building up in an interesting and emotional way falls apart at a rapid pace, once disappointment after another, and all that great character and world building is flushed away with one big dumb moral choice.

The wait for Episode 5 was great. Full of really good speculation on where things would go, lots of predictions on how the endings would be, and how previous choices would make the relationships. Then Dontnod said they were taking extra time for Episode 5, and we got even more excited because it meant it was going to be so ambitious that they couldn't get it done like the other episodes. Then we played it and saw they did nothing with that time and if anything they cut things that would have made the episode more interesting and fitting.
With the benefit of hindsight. and without any of the hype, it's easy to see that Dontnod really just fell apart the moment they geared things towards investigating and discovering the Dark Room. The main villain was only introduced 4/5ths into the game and what they wanted to be the real problem (The storm) only came int he final act.
From the start they had the final choice in mind and for whatever reason didn't see the hundreds of people predicting it or saying it was a stupid choice. And then instead of going out of their way to try to convince us that the choice was essential and putting their all into trying to explain it, they half-assed it by only bringing up in the final five minutes. Then they took away the original plan to leave it as Chloe in the hospital and made it into one ending has a lot more effort and time put into it, and the other is thirty seconds long and shows nothing. Which opens the door for retards to say one ending was "good" or "bad".
Like that one caopypasta about ME3's endings says, on my gravestone the epitaph will read "I'm still fucking mad about Episode 5"
