And most people aren't cheating, they're just twinking. DaS didn't have any sort of "weapon memory" system the way DaS3 does, so you could stay low level, get maxed out weapons, and still invade other low level players.
Don't go human for the first half of the game and you should be fine. Also, learn backstab and counter backstabs.

casting speed, FP cost, cancel frames, and projectile speed all got tweaked for a lot of spells. Black Serpent casts faster than a Fire Orb, Great Deep Soul and Dark Edge went from "useless" to "actually useful" and Lightning Spear spells are really fast now.

Use Gargoyle Flame Spear. Decent reliable weapon for just poking people, but it also has a fun WA even if it's kinda bad.
Gargoyle Flame Hammer is also somewhat okay, not really a fan of it though and the WA is generic "makes fire that hits nobody ever" trash. Demon Hammers are better though they require more strength. Apparently Demon Fists aren't complete trash now, but last I checked they don't scale with pyro stats.
In terms of infusion your other real option besides Astora GS is a Murakamo or Carthus Curved GS, but you'll never really feel satisfied with the damage because it's still pointlessly split.
The japanese pyrogod has switched from Astora GS/Rapier to Carthus Curved Sword, but it's hard to tell if that's for scaling reasons or just because it's a strong one-handed weapon regardless.

It now has hyper armor, which means it can now be used as a trade punish instead of just a parry punish.
And a claw weapon art punish does, oh, about 1200 damage. The weapon art comboes into two L1's. Guaranteed bleed with rouge of course.

Everyone game has its own problems.
Dark Souls is plagued with hackers and has bad gameplay, on top of not being very helpful with quests.
Dark Souls 2 has the fucking SM system and some durability bugs.
Dark Souls 3 has even more obscure bullshit than Dark Souls 2.
I think my favorite is still Dark Souls 2. Bringing life to Majula and just chilling here was relaxing. Too bad it lacks the stretching gesture.

And that's basically it. Sorcerors were considered trash when the game was first out, but they're the strongest anti-gank builds that aren't specifically baiting retards with Morne's Hammer or trying to one-shot people with parries.
Miracle users can also abuse AoE or just stroll in and nuke a host with the Lightning miracles. They're not as good as the other magics but they're passable.
If you're a decent player, Pyromancy is pretty strong for winning battles of attrition with lots of sustained damage and AoE, but probably has the highest skill cap if you want to be really good at this.
Generally speaking unless you're doing stuff like charging in with a Battle Axe or Halberd, or cutting down phantoms with Twinblades, expecting fun sword and board fights won't yield much in the way of fun.

I like DS3 SL120 pontiff duels in all honesty. Seems like anything is viable as long as you git gud enough.
It's the one thing keeping me playing this game for over 300 hours but I still believe it's worth. I enjoy it even after this long. Most of my time in this game has been SL120 pontiff PvP. To be honest, the only thing I like in Dark Souls 3 are the fact that maces are no longer OP, and that SM is no longer a thing, which means I can spend ALL my souls on prism stones.
For the rest, swords are still vastly superior to spears (that makes me cry), and I think there are a little less weapons variety than in Dark Souls 2, but the DLCs might fix that.

You can convert humanity into love for a cute spider lady.That'd be too easy, but once you get DLC you can easily farm both types of humanity veyr fast. Having legit 99 regular and twin isn't as impossible as blessings.It's quite doable
