Atlus RPGs have more roleplaying, and that's what WRPGs were supposed to excel at before they decided to become cinematic action games.

An adventure novel where the main story sucks, even by the admission of the fans, and the only good parts are the sidequests and side characters. I blame the open world design for that, though, as they succeeded in that area with the previous games.

I don't remember fans disliking the main story. Everyone I heard loved it. I thought it was really well paced and had some charming beats in it, especially if you balanced it out with the side quests and witcher contracts. Those contracts were great, too, it really felt like you were some superhuman detective and immersed me in being Geralt really well.
I have the same amount of time in each game (~200 hours) and only MGSV got boring because after you've beaten the game every side op is the same thing over again and FOBs get pretty stale too. I think we can just chalk this up to your personal opinion of hack n slash vs 3rd person shooters.

not him but i found all the ciri stuff just insufferable and didn't care about her or the wild hunt at all. also the wild hunt was just a bunch of sauron lookalikes and had no majesty or mystery.
the one-off witcher cotracts were great though like you said, they drew you into the character and the world in a very natural way. maybe i'm just bias though because i love mystery and detective games in general
