You are just not using the translation files right.
You don't need RPG Maker Trans to patch the game, only when you want to translate something new.
You just decrypt the archive, delete it and then copy the translation files over the extracted ones.

Because for starters the (normal) western gaming industry puts much more emphasis on graphical prowess than most of the Japanese's, and thus western gamers are way more demanding when it comes to graphics so it would be harder to sell them RPGmaker games with their tiny low quality sprites than to sell them a shitty but flashy (for 5 seconds) action game with bigger sprites and more detailed sex animations.

Having to save/reload constantly and jot down on spreadsheets what happens definitely hurt in the beginning, but now it sort of adds to the charm of the game.

Well, my dumb self finally got Vitamin Quest working with the translation. It really was as easy as drag-and-drop into the folder and getting rid of the archive. The translation text is cut off on the sides though. Is that normal, and something I need to put up with, or fixable? I was able to find a version of the game with smaller text, but it's from 2014 and isn't the current version of the game.

I think what gets me is that the animations and sound combined with the extremely large pool of facial expressions makes it so that I can tell the story without having to read the text.
And they put so much thought into each character, and the way they interract with each other.
And there's 18 of them. 18 fucking lolis you can fuck. It's glorious. So much work put into this game. Each girl (I'm pretty sure) also gets their own music that plays, and it's surprisingly decent music.
The only problem is sometimes the art is just. BAD. But overall, art quality is pretty rare in h-games, especially loli ones.
Oh and I need a spreadsheet because I don't know moonrunes. So I'm basically guessing constantly. So having the cheatsheet helps me stay consistent.

I would only use it if chiitrans doesnt work for a game for some reason, which has only happened like twice

What do you mean, translation speed?
You can pick which service you want to translate the text, and the offline translators are instant.

nah, just chiitrans takes 2 seconds to start up, VNR has to load libraries, go through updates etc. etc. and is just too resource intensive for what it does
it's not any better at it's translations than chiitrans so I don't know why it has to be so bloated

Another guy that uses VNR here. I haven't messed around with Chiitrans much. Does it also have a custom dictionary? That's one thing I find really useful about VNR, since a lot of character names and game terms get translated oddly.

I never really messed around with that, but as far as I was able to figure out you can translate names but i'm not sure how to change the translation of a word, you can mark translations as incorrect and re-parse them for what it's worth

Had to go down to the underground where the orcs are, take the stairs opposite the ladder which soots you down into another darker underground. From there, you go left into the wall where you come out into a sewer looking place and its straight forward from there.
