Nah, he's a victim of bad unit balance like the majority of non-royal units. He's got it particularly terrible because he's in a chapter where you also get promoted Level 5 Xander and Leo, and Hinoka and Ryoma in the chapters before.
Revelations is good for min-max grinding though, so feel free to invest some time into him if you're into that. He actually makes a pretty good Levin Sword user when you reclass to Samurai.

It was entertaining, but the animation quality was very questionable at times. There was also a bit of filler with content that wasn't originally in the novels, so the pacing can be fucked up in certain spots. Unfortunately, you won't get much pay-off either since season one is only the beginning of the larger story at hand and season two isn't out yet. If you do decide to watch it, don't watch the older OVA series to compensate for a lack of a season two because it spoils a lot and is incredibly rushed.
TL;DR—Just read the damn novels. There should be a fan-translation floating around somewhere.

His Dark Mage class tree gives average skills at best outside of Lifetaker, and if you want him to be more offensively able, grab skills from the Swordsmaster tree instead. Vantage, Astra, Swordsmaster, and Life-and-Death are pretty good to compensate for his initially terrible offense. If you want to keep him as a Swordsmaster, that's perfectly fine too as he can use Levin and crit swords pretty well.

Kinshi Knight is an okay transition class, but definitely shouldn't be anybody's final class since it tends to yield shit stats and gives you an annoying bow weakness. People tend to class into it because they want to grab Amaterasu skill, then get out immediately.
Consider investing in a Pegasus Knight or Dark Falcon if you want a good flying unit.

From what I understand at a surface level, Percy is actually one of the best kids in Conquest since Arthur and Effie come early and at the same time, and are easy to level their support. Effie also gives Percy uber mods, and you can actually get away with getting Percy early instead of using the Offspring Seal because of his bases and growths.
Revelations might be a different story, though.
