Yeah, League's viewership has dipped a bit, but that's because we now have Hearthstone, CS:GO, and numerous other games. Not to mention Memewatch is absorbing casuals from PC to Console. The idea is that one team doesn't want to run the standard 1v1 top 2v2 bot, either because the enemy toplaner scales harder with farm or their bot is weaker early, so they laneswap. If the toplaner tries to stay 1v2 they would get dove with the jungler 1v3 so they also go to the duo lane to help the 3v0 push. Then they swap back because they expect the other team to also swap back for the same reasons.

I'm a personal fan of Hecarim. Decent clears. Decent ganks. Decent damage, despite building tanky. If you're good you can easily carry games with him.
Xin Zhao is pretty easy. Slow early clears but good sustain. Good ganks. Once again, build damage first, then full tank. Dive into enemy team and fuck their faces.
Volibear is great for low elo. Tanky as fuck but deals crazy damage with a well-timed W. He's biggest weakness is how kiteable he is, but silvers aren't too good at kiting/positioning.

Xin is pretty flexible as far as builds go. Either chilly smite or red smite is fine. Bloodrazor into some kind of damage item. I like Tri Force, but you could also pick BotRK or Rage Blade. Then get items like SV to for MR and sustain, and either DMP or Randy. After that it's pretty situational.
