Quick question. Does PCSX2 have the ability to load custom textures. Curious if hd kingdom hearts is possilbe.
>>144292024
OP, your image is beautiful.
Video games are created only to die. Emulation will never be able to fully stem the rising tide.
>>144293184
In a few years you won't even be able to preserve software in a way that it can be used. We're entering an era of lockdown.
>>144293184
>>144293607
What the fuck are you niggers on about?
It's common knowledge that the Mega Drive version is a piss-poor platformer with its only true strengths being the sword and marginally better animation.
>>144294086
t.nintardo
>>144293692
The fact that people are stupid enough (including you, probably) to rent their software in perpetuity instead of buying it, all in the name of convenience.
You dumb cunts threw your consumer rights straight out the 5th story window, screaming, head-first.
>>144294338
Oh, it looks like an ass blasted collector-fag from /vr/ managed to find his way here.
Shoo. Go back to your CRT circle jerk thread.
>>144294679
None of that was relevant to my post. Absolutely none.
uh. so will the new mednafen hardware mode gonna fix the perspective-texture related issues and/or jiggly 3d polygons?
or is it simply "lmao hd polygons but it's still shit"
>>144294868
And somehow your posts are relevant to this general? Emulation usually doesn't involve purchasing anything, you fucking moron. Not to mention most emulators are open-source and can be used on platforms other than Windows.
>>144295013
Eventually. We need to fix the remaining issues first.
>>144294086
http://www.defunctgames.com/reviewcrew/6/aladdin-super-nintendo-vs-genesis
The Genesis won. Get over it.
>>144295387
thanks whoever you are
medievil 2 without said issues would be perfect
>>144295824
What are the issues with Medievil 2? I've played some Medievil 1 yesterday and it looked mostly finie.
Anyone else think it's weird that SMW, the game shipped with the SNES has jaggies in the title screen and some of the graphics, even on native resolution? Other games manage to avoid this. Were they just new to the system?
SMW is thus TERRIBLE to judge crt shaders for, since jaggies are everywhere regardless of what you do.
>>144295026
There were relevant to a pre-existing post. Suck my cock.
>>144295574
Did the Genesis really have so few good games that you guys need to keep defending a sloppy multiplatform license title online nearly 23 years later just because it wasn't on the SNES? Sad fucking show, bud.
Why is Windows 10 currently the best system for emulation?
>>144297139
zsnes and Fusion have problems working on it.
>>144297024
Says the anon who feels the need to shit on a game just because it was on of the few example of a genesis version being better than a SNES version.
>>144297241
Why would you need either of those?
I'm talking overall performance, including PCSX2 and Dolphin.
>"overclocking is bad" - Emugen, 2016
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfNBQU2xjAI
>>144297269
You could have brought up actual valid examples like Earthworm Jim or Mickey Mania where there's no question the Genesis did better, instead of pointing at Virgin's Aladdin which isn't even a good game.
Virgin were always a shovelware shit studio, and the closest they came to making something competent was with Lion King rather than Aladdin. You gotta be pretty fucking delusional to convince yourself otherwise, no disrespect intended.
>>144297139
Because MS is pushing it as hard as it can by making some performance enhancing features Windows 10-only.
>>144297481
Because it means idiot plebs need to move on from those emulators. Unless we get them emulating DOS to run zsnes. zsnes will die for Win11 at this rate. And we know damn well no one's ever going to make zsnes 2.0.
>>144297559
Like one guy said that, I don't think the majority of /emugen/ is against overclocking as a rule.
>>144297650
Who the fuck cares if shitty, inaccurate emulators aren't preserved?
>>144297572
I really enjoyed Aladdin on Mega Drive back then. Never played the SNES version though.
Overall the SNES has the best library, that's pretty obvious but I don't see why you're so adamant to shit on Aladdin. Is there such a thing as a retro console fanboy? The battle is over, there's nothing to shill anymore.
>>144297920
>Is there such a thing as a retro console fanboy?
You should browse /vr/ more often.
>>144298006
Should I though?
>>144297920
>Overall the SNES has the best library,
3/4 J-rpgs that no one over 10 can seriously play since the gameplay is so simple. The few space shooters it got were plagued with slowdowns. Lots of over rated ninty games that had better versions on the famicom.
>>144293692
Switching entirely to digital distribution is going to hurt preservation. You never own the game if you buy it like that (except when it's DRM-free but yeah), titles can get taken down anytime and there's nothing you can do about it. When "Trusted" Computing is going to hit you won't even be able to get rid of DRM so the game you bought will be useless outside your machine.
>>144298040
Oh so it's retarded SNES fanboy vs. retarded Mega Drive fanboy.
Nevermind then, sorry to have interrupted you.
>>144297920
There's no fanboyism to be found here, I just don't understand why MD/Genny owners gotta keep shilling that shit game online all the fucking time, but I guess it being the third most sold software on the console could have something to do with it. Lots of nostalgia to cloud judgement. FWIW I've played both games, maybe if some of you did the same we wouldn't be having these arguments all the time.
>>144298027
Not really. But as someone who browses the board nearly 24/7, I can assure you retro console fanboys are indeed a thing.
>>144298040
This so much.
>>144297559
It isn't shitposting any less this time around, faggot.
>>144298138
Played the games on multiple consoles. SNES, Genesis, Amiga, GBA.
The Capcom Aladdin game is shit. End of story.
>>144298129
Not really though, videogame streaming could hurt preservation massively but we're not there yet.
Old games often had DRM that forced you to use the physical CD in order to play the game, that didn't really stop preservation. I don't see how steam/whatever DRM is any different. You'll just have to emulate the steam calls. Most games have steam cracks already, the way we used to have no-CD cracks back then.
There's really nothing new under the sun as far as PC DRM is concerned, it's been the same shit for decades. I remember when I was in highschool in the early 2000's there was a new anti-piracy tool that was hailed as "unbreakable" like Denuvo today. I don't remember its name, I remember htat it caused issues with certain CD drives even for people who owned legit copies. It was eventually broken.
>>144298129
Shhh...!
He thinks owning the shit you pay for is something only luddites do. Don't you know getting corporate dick shoved up your ass is THE FUTURE?
>>144298489
You people really are ridiculous.
Go spout your propaganda elsewhere.
>>144298129
>titles can get taken down anytime and there's nothing you can do about it.
That's why you back things up. You assume they will go down, and you make copies. There will always be some HDD somewhere with the game, which you can track down.
>>144298789
Let's say every time you launch the game, the server sends you some decryption key. If the game gets taken down, the server won't do this and you end up with useless encrypted files.
>>144298378
No, the DRM will be successful because your own computer won't even obey you where that shit is concerned; on account of the fact it is now a glorified home appliance. How many people do you know who can opt out of the NSA's automated vehicle tracking? Fucking no one, that's who; doing that would require a user-serviceable car with user-serviceable computer chips. How many do you know that have either (new, mind; none of that "why-my-grandad's-old-clunker-spent-a-year-in-pieces-on-his-lawn" routine)?
>>144298604
Spouting memes and calling it propaganda is not an intelligent response.
>>144298948
Oh it's that FUD again.
>>144298946
>games can never be decrypted ever for any reason
>>144298789
There's not a title that has been taken down that you can't redownload if you bought it prior to that, except nintendo ambassador shit unsurprisingly.

>>144298378
Until this point, every DRM scheme was only enforced by software, so you could always break it because you had access to the code. The future is in hardware DRM - read up on Intel's SGX, trusted computing, remote attestation, TPM and such.
>>144299168
>posts a picture of an ex-Friends star laughing

Either you're blind, or your shitposting needs work, baka.
>>144299361
People were using "reaction images" way before 12-year-olds started calling everything on the internet a meme.
>>144299113
>thinking DRM has to be unbreakable
>thinking it can't just be extremely inconvenient
All they have to do is get the pool of people who'd go after the protection no matter how good it was small enough to conveniently arrest and prosecute without causing a scene; your draconian law enforcement will do the rest.
>>144299624
Yeah, your shitposting definitely needs work. You've resorted to weak one-line technicalities.
If I were wanting to emulate or easily play PlayStation 1 games, and had everything available which would be the most ideal choice?
I presently own a BVM, enabling me to use psp with PS1 eboots, if this is a good simple option for 240p, since I can use component 240p out, and games are simply plug and play (On the hardware side).
As I don't believe there are any ps1 flashcarts available, using the original console would be a less than ideal choice so the only remaining option is to simply emulate them on my oled, however if I were going to do this retroarch would be the most ideal correct?
Keeping in mind that I have never owned a playstation 1 before, so this would be my first foray into the world of ps1 emulation.
>Imagery from google
>>144299361
>baka
Nice meme
>>144299837
The best option for PS1 games on CRT without any improvements and pretty much PnPis a PS2 (slim has problems on a few more games but you're not missing much) with component / RGB out.
Other than that if you want improvements or can't output to a CRT TV, RA becomes a very good choice unless you absolutely want perspective correction right now.
>>144299759
How am I shitposting? What technicality? Surely you aren't stupid enough to believe every reaction image is a meme.
>>144299960
Memes for memes to make yet moar memes. ;)

Kill yourself. ;^)
I swear several days ago I saw something about PSOne emulation which apparently fixes distorted textures when observed from different angles. I want to google it, but I don't even know what keyword should I use.
>>144300079
But to use a PS2, I would either need to own the original disc, or use popstarter which has ??? compatibility and its own fair share of issues, according to the compatibility sheet here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ERB4SIXTTgsUCqOcoRPIseh2jnRfZWnGITOd_qz7s8E/edit#gid=0
I'm assuming your not telling me to go and acquire the actual discs, so what makes popstarter a more viable choice over using the PSP, which seems better documented at least

A chipped PS2 + what you need for burnt CDs is easy to grab for less than a hundred bucks and it's by far the best option outside of emulation, a PSP is slightly more all-in-one and convenient but the compatibility isn't as good as otehr options , a small mini-ITX box that can run mednafen/beetle is the the overall best solution in my opinion if you don't care about CRT TVs

Is there a single thread/topic on /vg/ that's not cancerous shitposting primarily? Like holy fuck it's one after another meme-ridden le culture garbage over here.
It wasn't this shitty on /v/ even. Is it just a truth of having a constant thread? That when it slows or goes off hours the only way to keep it on the board is slamming your hairy shit leaking ass on the keyboard and posting the result.
>>144306832
I know this is out of place, but every time I see a JRPG, I feel like players are doing nothing but chore to reach to the next part of story.
The random encounters are imho the worst thing about any rpg's, and they don't add fun. You're always on the edge of RNG, it's not sense of danger, but rather "please dont waste my time anymore" thing. Meanwhile you can play a Chrono game and you have the ability to skip minor enemies. Which makes you want to fight them because they're sparse and you can move around the area without worrying about another battle.
I just had to puke this somewhere after trying to play FF6, FF1 and FF7. the stories are really neat and exciting, but when i get that "fucking shit if i take another step im gonna battle some giant enemy crab" feel, i just give up.
>>144307465
>Is there a single thread/topic on /vg/ that's not cancerous shitposting primarily?
No, some are better than others but not by much.
>>144307879
That's why most jRPG give you a very reduced encounter rate ability/item/equip early on or a way to skip them like WA2.
>>144303787
As I have upgraded from my BVM CRT to an OLED monitor, for all consoles 6th generation and beyond, I was considering the possibility of perhaps completely retiring the bvm, and emulating the remaining generations.
But I believe you can get an even more accurate image with a 4k monitor for all 16bit consoles.

A question related to all that preservation talk earlier. How about console games with multiple patch revisions received through PSN/Xbox Live? Sure you can preserve the physical disc, but what about what patch to the next? I'm unfamiliar with digital download as I still have bought physical the last two generations.

>>144325331
The patches have to be delivered somehow. My guess is that they're just downloaded off HTTP servers. You just need a way to capture the network traffic. Of course they can be encrypted, in which case you need to do some additional hacking.
>>144325797
What prevents them from using KVM or a recompiler so it doesn't run like crap?

Patches are just (console) standard package files on PS3, probably the same on Xbox
>>144325331
There's a couple sites archiving 360 title updates. No one is archiving PS3 updates AFAIK, but everything on PSN (for all systems) is an unchanging HTTP link that you can download, like so:

I was wondering if it was possible to emulate the Wii controller using that playstation clone. I sold my Wii Mote some years ago because I didn't feel like playing with that console ever again and now I regret it because I can't play some dolphin games (I didn't have the wii motion plus anyway).

Uninstall that shit now.
Reposting from last thread;
So I started tinkering with retroarch again and noticed the directory scanning feature for roms. Pretty cool.
But it won't load my romhacked roms in the directories. That blows. I gave it some research and found that Retroarch supports soft patching... so I'm trying to wrap my head around this.
If I want to play Castlevania - Bloodlines with this cool color hack I found, I have to have Castlevania - Bloodlines.bin and the color hack ips file in the same folder with the same name? Then loading the .bin file will auto patch the ips hack with it?
What if I have multiple ips hacks for one rom? Do I have to manually rename them each time? What's the best solution to this? Seeing the way Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics dealt with "mods" made me desire something similar for Retroarch. Something like that sound be ideal.
Someone suggested last thread I just load up the romhacked roms and that is what I have been doing, just wondering if soft patching could be a neater solution. For the record, I tried loading castlevaniabloodlines.bin and castlevaniabloodlines.ips while in the same folder and the softpatch didn't work on genesisplusGX anyway.

>How is it inferior now?
The drag'n drop is *almost* on par with retroInvader now I'd say -- I'm impressed and humbled by the elegance and speed in which this feature was implemented. In some ways this is actually better, as rInvader forces a core for certain systems and many users will appreciate being able to select an alternative one.
>... you got Qt, GTK, Wx,...
I figured that it might be more of a challenge to get d'n'd to work with ra across all platforms. I don't even know if it's necessary for *nix users as they tend to be savvy and phones don't do that shit anyway.

>>144371381
Yeah I've seen that too but was hoping there was another way. I really dig how they went through the trouble of only loading verified roms and didn't want to smudge up my library with roms that didn't have cover art thumbnails (I'm really autistic about cover art and have submitted many to consolegrid just for my Ice/Steam setup). I suppose using that script is going to be my best option for now though. Thanks.
>>144372262

The difference is, OpenEmu is still actually being developed. This guy's shit is one step away from breaking on el cap.
The only thing that prevents me from giving him a piece of my mind is that the DOSBOX devs (on whom he is largely, reliant, if you think about it) are infinitely worse: those flaky opaque cocksucks have not made an official release in over SIX YEARS. Every time someone plucks up the courage to ask them if they could be so good as to maybe, possibly, if it's not too terribly inconvenient, condescend getting something shoved out the fucking door already, they practically rock back and forth in a corner over it and mumble "Don't ask...Pleasepleaseplease don't ask....Gotta be cleaned up a bit first...Not ready yet...Gotta be CLEEEEEEAN....".

Yeah.
I'm using hackintosh at the moment, however the results still vary. I'm using a i5 4460 and a r9 280x which is supported out of the box.
So with most cores, specially both SNES ones I had some stuttering happening every 5 seconds. This was frequent with bilinear filtering, if I tried anything better it would get worse. On Retroarch I would have no issues with most shaders I tried.

I'm using a Wii U Pro controller to emulate and using a mayflash adapter to connect to my PC.
When I'm using the xinput function, my left analog stick is constantly communicating that it's ever so slightly down causing my character or menu to slowly crawl down. The other stick works fine.
If I switch it to dinput, the left stick starts to work properly but the right stick goes out of whack.
Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to solve it?
It's pretty hard to play SM64 with Mario either fighting me to move or randomly being fully stopped to zoom in.
>>144442896
I should also mention that both have slight irregularities when trying to configure my controller in the control panel but they only seem to make a difference on different inputs.
>>144442896
Recalibrate your controller, or increase the dead zones.
What's the best place to get some Wii isos quick and easy?
>>144443617
>easy
Doesn't exist on the public. Emuparadise has them, but you need to download an extra few blocks to make the entire file work.
>>144443617
Near impossible. 3ds games are actually easier to get
I'm trying to play FF VIII on PPSSPP, but I can't find ISOs anywhere on the sites I use. They're all BIN/CUEs or some other filetype that doesn't work with the emulator.
>>144447171
PPSSPP isn't a PS1 emulator..
>>144447425
I realize this.
>>144447970
Then why are you trying to play a PS1 game on an emulator that can't play PS1 games?
>>144441223
OK, just hold onto that thought whenever (at some point) libretro hard forks from you guys. Post preserved for posterity's sake.
Pot. kettle. black
>>144448143
Because FF VIII was released on PSN and playable on PC, and PPSSPP is a much more advanced emulator than ePSXe.
>>144448447
Thus we go back to PPSSPP isn't a PS1 emulator, don't try to play PS1 games with it
>>144448152
Anyone who ignores bug reports does not deserve to be catered to.
>>144448447
>FF VIII was released on PSN
As a PS1 game.
>>144443041
Tried recalibrating it and my analog controls were going haywire.
I set my deadzone to 20% and it works fine though it seems like I shouldn't need to go nearly that high.
>>144450186
Assuming it works fine on your Wii U, it's either the adapter or drivers. Check the mayflash site and see if there's any updates for it.
How do I get motion plus to work in Dolphin with a non -TR motion plus controller (no attachment) and a Dolphin Bar?
>>144445390
>>144443841
Are you rusing him, or are you really unable to get isos by just searching on piratebay anymore?
>>144298948
This is correct. DRM is getting so deep into the system we\ll need open source hardware
>>144450681
nvm fixed
I remember my first day on the internet.

>>144450860
Well, nobody seems to give a shit anyway. And good luck getting support from software vendors.
>>144450860
We already have that. You can synthesize your own CPU on FPGA if you want to. If you can find a few other conspiracy theorists ready to fund it you can even get a custom made ASIC using open cores.
As long as I can install linux on my computer this is all still just FUD.
>>144450583
That's what I thought too but I have the latest driver for it. Maybe the adapter is dying a bit since it does work on my Wii U and actually anything that isn't an emulator just fine.
At least it works now though. Thank you.
>>144440281
>Body Harvest didn't sound like that on the real N64 though.
The issue was there before the change.
>>144429434
>2) it actually introduces sound regressions.
If you tested emucr, just know that they didn't update the HLE RSP. Look at the date modified. The crc of the binary file hasn't changed.
>>144430091
>Could be depth bias issues though in the graphics plugin.
It's definitely graphics plugin related. Also certain emulators have additional problems.
>>144448447
You don't run PS1 rips in PPSSPP. Yes, FFVIII was released on the PSN store and playable on a physical PSP, but PPSSPP was not developed to emulate that part of the hardware.
If you really have to play it on a PSP, buy a cheap used one and throw CFW on it. This is what you'll be looking to load up
http://nicoblog.org/psp/final-fantasy-viii-usa-psn/
And again, no, that won't work on PPSSPP.
>>144454249
No the sound regression is definitely after the change you did.
Compare it before and after. You cannot hear the static before.
This is me backporting the changes back to mupen64 libretro, which honestly should make no difference as it's the exact same bsmiles RSP HLE code.
How good are VIA CPUs for emulation?
>>144453673
Enjoy your NSApproved systemd
>haha, time for emulating! "higan" most recommended and accurate. great, this should be as simple as mednafen, drag and drop and play
>was about to post asking why the fuck I couldn't get newest higan to work (constantly crashes when loading roms, either by drag and dropping or using the menu)
>HOURS in google
>check archives for the hell of it. maybe there's a post about it
>shit loads of posts
>apparently higan is shit and, bsnes, an older model, is still better
JUST
>>144456601
Just use Retroarch.
>>144456276
Of all the reasons to shit on systemd, this doesn't even make top 10.
Has anyone ever leaked these?

I missed when this was only $5 and I refuse to pay anymore for a program made by a delusional french literal autist that might not even work
Does frankenmupen's Glide64 has software depth buffer?
>>144455005
I just compiled latest frankenmupen source and I could hear a difference between LLE audio and HLE. So then I changed that 1 line of code and can no longer hear a difference between LLE and HLE.
>>144457937
Yes. Set GFX accuracy to Very High in Core Options.
anyone good with gecko codes.
I was in the mood to play skyward sword recently but didnt want to use the wii motion plus. So I was considering looking into if it was possible to make a code to remove the need for it. I have a few ideas as to how to go about this but was wondering if anyone else had already ventured into doing this.

What's going on on OP's pic?
I mean, that clearly is TR1, a game I love. But...
Anyway, I'm not into emulation. So I just came here by curiosity alone.
Musou game:
-End up literally performing genocide
-Literally have to kill enemy officers and commanders to pacify the enemy forces
-Its actually well written. Its engaging to watch
>>144450758
You can and there are some romsites that have them ( portalroms.com ) but you're probably going to have a real hard time finding anything that's not really popular, and even then, you're likely to get bad dumps and scrubbed shit.
Redump really needs to make their Wii stuff public already. Like how many years has the WiiU been out now?
in what decade will Mame be able to run modern arcade games on a home PC?
2030 is my guess
Is anyone doing desmume builds?

Redump is completely against making any of their shit public (except their database, of course). Check the forums if you don't believe me- they've even disabled registrations completely to prevent any more "leaks".
>>144468272
Because you don't understand some words don't mean they don't have a well defined meaning anon. Educate yourself.
>>144467356
Modified ROM/disc images are fucking cancer, cancer.
>>144468872
Not even the database is public for Wii.
>>144468903

Fuck off back to /g/ please.

Oh man, the automatic feedback from those House of the Dead 4 toy guns was pretty satisfying when I played it years ago. I miss the hell of a time to be alive when 2D arcades were the multiplayer place to be

I'm surprised modded images weren't made so people couldn't make their own cabs with off the shelf parts.
