Yeah, looks like it also has an effect that removes buffs or something like that. I had evasion on one servant and although it evaded the damage it lost evasion afterwards making it vulnerable to hits in the same turn. I guess guts doesn't work because it calculates damage, applies the debuff skill (which removes the guts) then applies the damage, and as the servant no longer has guts at this stage it doesn't revive.
