When you compare tanks of the same tier you can see what strengths they have over others and what weaknesses they have to compensate. Some trade-off's matter more than others depending on the tier. Matilda trades mobility for armor, and damage per shot/pen for rate of fire. SU-85B trades armor and a turret for a stronger gun and camo.
Do the Matilda pro's benefit it when bottom tier? No. It's slow because it has armor, but it's armor is shit for a higher tier game. It has rate of fire, but low pen and it needs to shoot at things longer to do significant damage.
Do the SU-85B's pro's benefit it in higher tier? Yes. It has strong pen, it gives up armor (which doesn't matter when bottom) for camo (which does work at all tiers) and ends up being a more effective tank overall in comparison to the Matilda.
