I cant speak for ranger boy, but for me it was Boot then 37 wks AIT in Fort Lee, I lived in New york at the time so I pretty much left everything I had behind and went where the army sent me. By the time I had my MOS they stationed me at the 703rd EOD in Kentucky. So yea for about 5 years it was nothing but training and by year 3 I was deployed to Iraq. By year 7 I was stationed in Korea in Camp Castle until they turned the base back over to the koreans (Met my wife there too) But ill tell you what in those 7 years I had saved enough money to buy a house when I got back into the states, stayed in for 1 more year then Left the service and went to Culinary school. Trust me when I say this though, that part of my life went by at a mile a minute, so while it may seem like a long time, youre so busy you hardly even realize it.

PS3 isn't super active anymore but theres still enough people to get into PvP games and strikes and all that. Finding a raid group will probably be more difficult but you might have some luck with LFG.
PS3 performance is pretty much fine, with the biggest issue being menu load times. This generally isn't a problem but if you wanted to use a consumable like ammo synths quickly, you're shit out of luck. We had trouble beating Skolas even with Solar Burn and 3 Gjallarhorns because we couldn't open the menu and eat synths fast enough.
If you get it on PS3 though and ever upgrade to PS4, your character and items will all transfer over (though you'll need to buy the game and everything again). Most of us PS3 holdouts just jumped to PS4 recently so you're pretty much fucked in terms of community.

Patrol beacons. VIP kill, Scan, and Survey give the most exp. Named enemies, If you've got an automatic shotgun you can solo Challenge of elders because Airborne is in effect you can just melt enemies by shooting them mid air with a shotgun but that's a bit of a harder tactic if you're still leveling. Crucible and strikes would be your next option but they're a bit more lenghty, on the plus side they also rank up your factions fairly quickly so you can end up with some good gear in the end.

I was one of the "lucky" few to visit Bungie HQ during and up to the release of Destiny, even have a signed test copy from all the original lead devs.
While the people themselves working on Destiny in it's development where nice enough, it truly was an amazing example of nobody knowing what anyone was doing. They where quite literally throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.
Also, Bungie had a large portion of their dev team as women. In my personal experience, female devs do not mean good things.
