Yes and no, zoning as a whole is a bit trickier since KoF has rolling, hops, and hyper-hops, so lots of ways around projectiles.

Well even that can get broken down further, rolling is only good to get through fireballs at long range or if you predict it and time it so that you recover the instant the fireball is past you and there are a LOT of fireballs in KoF, specifically flying fireballs, that cannot be hopped at all because hops cannot clear them vertically, which is one of the reasons KoF has ground travelling fireballs and why that actually makes a difference.
KoF zoning is usually pretty solid, even in XIII where fireballs and anti airs are the shittiest they have ever been in the entire series.

Kof xiv looks ok. I don't see why people make a big deal about the graphics. The characters are expressive, the animations are crisp, and the stages are varied.
