Ragna, Valkenhayne, and Hazama are what come to mind. I like most of the characters and think they fit the story in their own way just fine. It's just some characters could be better if they acted outside their given trope more often, and others didn't look like a carbon copy of existing ones. It's not too late of course, cf looks somewhat promising for some, and the full story mode has yet to be made.

Finally starting to getting the hang of Makoto now, but still can't get a lot of damage from midscreen combos, capping in the mid 2000, not counting throws.

If you're close to the corner you wanna combo into 214ac/236d because that leads to wallstick. Throw in a 5d and micro dash 2C and you get anywhere from 3-2-3.6k. It's hard though. to get a micro dash 2c.

This is your go to punish combo.
CH 5B > 2C > 214A~A > 5B > 6A > 2D > 2C > 214A~A > 5B > 6A > j.CB > j.B j.D(2) > j.623C~D
You can try practicing it by recording a Ragna dp. Just remember to hold back for a split second after 214A~A because if you're too close the 2D will whiff. Or you can just skip the 2D and go into a regular ender if you're not confident it will work.

That combo is just that hard. You can try practicing it by doing a raw 5d in the corner. The easier ending would be to pick up with 2b. You don't have to do it but it'll be good to work on and you can do it when you're ready.
If you want an easy mode OD combo any time you get them in the air press od, dp and then they'll land right on the ground when you can do 236236d for good damage. You can do that off of almost anything. I think that's the first od combo anyone should learn.

So, try to release 236D sooner I guess? As soon as you reach lv3 that is.
Sometimes even if I released it fast enough it wouldn't work cause I fucked up on the 214A~C I guess, it's pretty annoying.

If it's too hard I would just practice the part that I have the hardest time with. The important thing is to make sure you can do it slightly better than before. No matter how slow. Consistent progress builds up into a lot of progress over time.

Yes, you have to microdash after the sickle storm in order for them to catch the wall properly for the bounce, then jump towards them in order to close the distance so the j.6D hits. I rarely get it correctly.

About half the characters have to do it too. I tried to play Platinum and there was difficult micro dashes. Bang has some micro dashes and instant air dashes, Kokonoe you have to do micro dashes for mid screen combos, Hazama micro dashes are a bitch. It's all in the game.

there are combos where your character HAS to slide while doing a move right after another move in order to link something. if you perform an actual dash it will whiff. if you do not slide then the move whiff or the combo drops later.

Lambda has some micro dashes you have to do in the corner too but they are pretty easy. That's why I like Lambda because all the combos feel nice to do. I'd consider playing her in CF.

with bang he needs to do a real hard one to do damage off crouching in the corner. he could do 3.8k mid screen with two hard micro dashes that give him 4 seals but its almost combo movie flashy and not possible to do in a real match. and with platinum thats what im working on now. she needs micro dashes if she wants to do any damage mid screen. fallen melody combos are too hard man and not using them makes you miss out on too much damage.
So how is your character of interest looking in CF? Mine is looking alright, nice and comfy in mid - almost high tier.

In any case, the base of the rumor seems to be because of Revelator's lack of a dub. The logic appears to be that if they won't dub Revelator, then why would they dub BBCF? That would take way longer and be way more expensive.
